Shows that died and came back

Boy Meets World?

MST3K never took a season off. They went from KTMA (local station), to Comedy Central, to Sci-Fi, but there were no breaks in between.

It wasn’t cancelled, per se. It was moved to Sci-Fi which was part of the USA Network, uh, network of channels.

The suits thought it would work better there.

Wrong again.

Cool theme song and opening credits, though.

if miniseries count, add Farscape to the list, it was cancelled a bit over a year ago, and thanks to fan outrage, and a “Never give up, Never Surrender” attitude (plus the desire to strap bonnie hammer and the skiffy suits into the Aurora Chair and press “liquify”), we’re getting a 4 hour miniseries to “wrap up the loose ends”

personally i think this is a test, if the miniseries (entitled “Peacekeeper War”) does well, it may be the start of a fifth season, maybe more…

anyone who gets the skiffy channel (Sci-Fi), please watch Farscape, they do play the reruns, and it is one long story arc extended over 4 years, so it’s better if you start from the Premiere episode and watch them in order, some eps can stand alone, but most are built off the other eps, it’s hard to come into the show midway and figure out what’s going on

of course, you could always rent/purchase the DVD sets to help you catch up…

And Firefly, gorram it.

Eerie Indiana was cancelled by NBC and, several years later, Fox started running new episodes on Saturday morning (though they were terrible). The worst part was that the obvious way to explain the cast change (“Mom! Dad! We all look different!” “Don’t be ridiculous.”) wasn’t used.

You could also count The Twilight Zone and The New Twilight Zone. There was also a second version of Alfred Hitchcock Presents with new versions of older stories with Hitchcock’s (colorized) introductions intact.

I remember an old, old version of Jeopardy with 10,20,30,40 and 50 dollar questions.

With no hiatus, thus disqualifying it from this thread.

I’m still searching for a crate made from magic wish granting planks …

Would Mama’s Family count? I think they took a year or two off and then came back with some different characters.

“Cagney and Lacey”, I think.

I think that JAG started out on NBC was cancelled and picked up the next season by CBS. Strangely enough so was Diff’rent Strokes. No long multi-season wait between incarnations. Same as Golden Girls being reborn as Golden Palace from NBC to CBS. JAG is the only one that I know of that survived.

There’s been a total of three different versions of The Twilight Zone. The original, CBS’s 1st revival of it, and then their later one with Forrest Whittaker. I think that there was even a syndicated version of it for a while, but I’m not certain.

For some reason Young Indiana Jones keeps running through my mind as having qualified for this. But I could well be wrong.

You do realize that TMNT is a very popular franchise again. Alot of the 80s kid lines have been brought back. Transformers which really never left, GI JOE (CGI cartoon movies and toys), Masters of the Universe (voted best toyline of the year last year but already cancelled stateside along with the new cartoon) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. TMNT is enjoying success in both the toy aisle and on the tv. The new cartoon only looks similar to the original if you have completely forgotten what the original cartoon looked like. The new cartoon is based more closely on the original Eastman and Laird comics. It’s darker and way more violent.

As for April, I guess wearing middrift t-shirts makes one slutty.

The syndicated version was a continuation of The New Twilight Zone. It aired the next season, though the CBS version may have been cancelled early, so there was a short hiatus.

I had forgotten about the recent revival, though.

There was a dire UK soap about a motel - it was called Crossroads - I think it might have actually made two failed comebacks - in which it was equally dire, but not necessarily for the same set of reasons.

We’ve ALL tried to forget the third version.

I don’t think a Star Trek series has ever been cancelled and revived. On the other hand, there was a long gap between the original series and the movies, or the original and TNG, depending on how you want to look at it.

It’s had some long gaps even by HBO standards, but it’s never been cancelled.

I’m given to understand that Classic Trek was saved every year only by a massive fan write-in. There seems to be a little dispute as to whether NBC actually pulled the plug at any point, though.
