Shrek 2

Or …

Ass Draggers?

I came dangerously close to aspirating a Skittle when Mongo ripped the big coffee cup off the roof of a Starbucks, and the crowd ran screaming out of the store… directly across the street into another Starbucks.

I was also the only person in the theatre to laugh at the throwaway Puss in Boots comment, “I hate Mondays.”

I went and swa it yeaterday and I have to admit…It was funny

It was everything I expected it to be

I roared throughout the movie. So many jokes, so little time…

Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots stole his scenes. His acting was wonderfully over the top. He’s made me want to go reread the Puss in Boots fairy tale.

The knights chasing the white Bronco – that was TOO much! I missed the point that the knights were using fresh-ground pepper spray to subdue Shrek. The next fantasy RPG I’m in, I want my character to ride a white bronco named Ford.

Much like everybody else, I laughed when Mondo the Sta-Puft Gingerbread Man tore the coffee cup off the roof of Farbucks, sending the customers inside fleeing in panic – right into the other Farbucks across the street.

The Mission: Impossible scene was also wonderful. I have a question about that, though: How did the Impossible Mission Force arrive in Far Far Away so quickly?

Would you mind clueing me in on the joke in this line?

Put it in a spoiler box if necessary.

Thanks.

Horses have naturally long faces.

…drinking their coffee on the way…

Loved the cat.

That’s it?

Gee, I knew that. I thought I was missing some risque double entendre or a reference to a famous line in another movie or something.

Anyway, thanks.

[spoiler]Pinocchio wore women’s underwear (which was pretty freaky, let me tell you!)

Others have mentioned the inherent parodies behind Mongo. Another line I caught was when Mongo is sinking in the moat, he tells the Gingerbread Man, “Be good” which was right out of E.T.

What left us dying with laughter was: “The part of annoying talking animal companion is already taken!”. That whole scene.

Overall I liked the movie, but it wasn’t as good as the first one. I posted this in my journal when we saw the movie last week:

We were walking down the hall leaving the theater, and Dominic said to me “you know what was so funny? When Donkey said–” --we were approaching a group of probably six to eight high school aged kids… just as we got to where they were standing, Dominic breaks out the quote, full volume, in his best impression of Donkey’s voice:
"I drank the potion and now I’m SEXY!!!"

The group of teens swivelled their heads as one and looked at Dominic. I looked at Dominic. I looked at the group of teens. I realized my eight year old son had just shouted “I’m SEXY!!!” I put my hands over my face and then walked over and stood in the corner for a moment. I was laughing my ass off. So was everyone else.

Dominic doesn’t quite understand why I thought it was so funny.

"

“A horse walks into a bar. The bartender says ‘Why the long face?’”

Anyone else notice the ‘IX’ on the love potion?

It’s a take on the joke: " A horse walks into a bar, the bartender goes ‘Why the long face?’"

I just saw it… GOD, that was funny! Bandaras was fantastic as Puss in Boots and his ‘fighting’ style. Cleese was great, but I was waiting for him to say “Its only a flesh wound” or when he was turned into a frog “I got better”. I absolutely loved the references to all the shows and movies (which made the movie more for adults than kids), especially the “Cops” reference with the catnip joke! Great flick!

I can’t quite put my finger on who, but the Fairy Godmother reminds me of someone… I was thinking Sally Jesse Raphael, but she’s been out of the limelight long enough to make that improbable. Someone else likened her to Oprah, but I can’t quite see that.

Does anyone else have a suggestion???

Where have I seen/heard Jennifer Saunders before? Her voice was familiar but her name doesn’t ring a bell. It was bugging me the whole time.

I really enjoyed the music and will get LilPundit the soundtrack for her birthday in a few weeks. (I’m sooo giving.)

I chuckled at the rock posters in Fiona’s bedroom – the bands had medieval names. And then we had the poster of Justin Timberlake…

The Fairy Godmother reminded me a little of Captain Janeway from Voyager: mature, sexy in a “don’t mess with me” kind of way. Except that the was a lot more Machiavellian, of course.

Jennifer Saunders is from Ab Fab.

Darn you, I was gonna post this.

Good movie, the side jokes were great, and I liked the way they took right off from where “Shrek” ended. But… did anyone else think the contrivance of Mongo could have been better? I mean, “We’re going to need lots and lots of flour…” and just like that, they’ve got a giant walking gingerbread guy. Eh. I was half expecting a Princess Bride Miracle Max kind of scene. They’re bringing a character to life, right? To help break into the castle and rescue the princess, right? It’s perfect! The line “Have fun storming the castle!” would have been a given.
