Shrek 2

And is half of French & Saunders.

Quoth MacTech:

When I saw this comment (before I saw the movie or read any of the spoiler boxes), I was expecting a watery bint lobbing a scimitar to be involved. Silly me.

I think, though, that the cleverest reference was
when the Fairy Godmother ordered wraps and cauliflour rice at the drive-through. For the rest of the movie, I was expecting a scene with the Queen at the Friar’s Fat Boy so she could comment on the quality of the food. Maybe on the DVD? I can’t decide if it would be funnier if they finished the joke or not.

Speaking of the Queen, the book she was reading in bed was Queens are from Venus, Kings are from Mars.

I was also expecting a Princess Bride reference (a wheelbarrow, maybe?), but I didn’t see one either. Did anyone else?

And finally, in the cameo by the Little Mermaid, it almost looked like she was topless, but she went by so fast. Did anyone else notice?
I think that would have been hilarious. Probably would have made the writing more difficult, but hilarious nonetheless.

Chalk me up as another who thought Puss in Boots stole the show. His big-cute-eyes thing and the hairball were just hysterical, especially if you own a cat.

Damn, she was actually hot in a older-woman sort of way. Or am I weird?

Sorry, Lumpy. That’s just wierd. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was refering to the BBC import Ab/Fab.
Hi, 'nilla!

Hi NCB!

We’re going to see Garfield next.

And when he was caught licking himself! That’s exactly the expression on a cat’s face, down to the tongue still sticking out.

My jaw was hurting from laughing so much, and I practically soaked my t-shirt from all the tears. I thought it was the funniest movie I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to see it again, just to catch all the little gags and throwaway jokes I missed first go-round.

I am probably wrong but I thought the “Be Good” line was a riff from The Iron Giant. If not the line, then the delivery for sure.

I think “be good” is from E.T.

I was never a fan of the first movie; loved the sequel, largely due to the new characters. John Cleese and Jennifer Saunders are always aces in my book, but damned if Antonio Banderas didn’t make me a fan. And as has been said elsewhere, an animated movie with a Tom Waits song scores some high marks right there.

I do have to say that the audience dynamics were very different in my two viewings - one 10:30pm (adults) and one 3:30pm (lots of young children). The one with the grown-ups was laughs on top of laughs while the kids’ showing was pretty blase, with the only real reactions happening w/Puss.

It’s bizarre (in a good way) that animated films have become so mainstream that the younger audience actually seems to have become a secondary market… though it’s hard to tell with that blitz of merchandising.

It’s definitely a DVD purchase for me. And god help my little orange tabby come Halloween, should I be feeling in a crafty mood (I’ll only make her wear the little plumed hat for a moment, I swear!)

Things that left me hanging:

 1. Transforming the dragon somehow, since she was Donkey’s true love, right?
 2. Something with the guys under the suits at the potion factory. They were just random green blobs.

Would someone be able to explain to me “the bush that looks like Shirley Bassey,” or is that just a throwaway gag?

I have watched the Original Shrek about fifteen times a week since i bought the DVD a few weeks ago.

I love this film.

We went out with the kids to see Shrek 2 and I thought it was a most excellent follow up. It did end a little lame but, hey I don’t care. The throw away lines were a scream. The reference with Puss and the catnip left me howling.

If you want some fun, check out Shrek 3-D. Its about 15 minutes long and picks up for the Honeymoon part of Shrek and Fiona where they encounter spiders, getting lost and Lord Ffarquard ( even though he died in the first movie.) I can’t speak for the 3-D effects, as 3-D gives me a headache, but it is thouroughly enjoyable.

I didn’t get the Shirley Bassey reference either.

Probably another movie reference. Monsters, Inc.?

How? Where? I’ve not heard of this…?

It’s originally a ride at Universal’s theme parks (I think it replaced the old Terminator 3-D ride/show). The stores are now selling Shrek and Shrek 3-D bundled together.

I thought it was reasonable, but not worth the $76 I paid for tickets and cokes for 6 (no popcorn even). My 5 and 7 year old sons had a great time which was really why I went, so that was cool.

My only question: who was that chick who wrecked Changes, and how did she get Bowie to back her up in it? Actually, no need to answer that.

They took out the T2:3D attraction? That’s a shame if true, because that thing kicked ass.

They were obviously oompa-loompas.

I laughed really hard, but I was disappointed by the lack of a decent plot under all the jokes. Oh well.

You can get really, really good human modeling if you’re willing to spend enough time and money on it, but most firms aren’t. The problem is that, as smooth as human skin looks, it’s actually a really, really complicated surface, and modeling the way light reflects off it is just a bitch. Normally, you like to set up the laws of physics and simulate, but that just doesn’t work for skin. To get the textures for the Final Fantasy movie, they basically had to jury-rig it.
