Shrek is Better Than Sex

Best entertainment headline ever:

“Shrek” Better Than “Sex”

Whew! Here I was thinking that you either really liked the movie Shrek, or were having really bad sex.

Of COURSE Shrek is the highest grossing movie right now, the tickets are the most expensive tickets of any movie ever. In NYC I can see S&TC for $9-$12 depending on the theater but it would cost me $19.50 to see Shrek no matter where it is showing.

Does that $19.50 include KY ?
Coz, that’s definitely a screwin’.

Only if you insist on seeing it in 3D.

I can’t believe that there are only 3D showings in NYC.

I checked IMDB, and there are many theaters in the 10001 area code showing it in 2D.

Appropriate, yet oh so not.

I’m sure there are 2D showings in places. I know my first statement was too braoad but my point still stands. They are comparing apples and oranges. Much of the ticket income for Shrek is twice that of other films based on the 3D showings being more expensive and not on higher ticket sales so I don’t think it is fair to say Shrek is necessarily doing better than any other movie.

They’re talking about money, not ticket sales. If you can convince half as many people to spend twice as much as your nearest competitor, you’re still doing better or just as well as your competition.

Wonderful pun headline. At first I thought in this thread you were going to share your review of the movie. Thank god you don’t hold that opinion.

No it wouldn’t. If you see it in the IMAX at Lincoln Center before noon, it’s $10. After noon will be $19. Regular 3D in other theatres range from $6 before noon to $13 after. 2D depends on the theater chain and again ranges from $6 to $13.

I was so afraid this was your movie review… although I hear they both aren’t that great, so it’s possible that *Shrek *is the lesser of two evils.

I saw the title… and thought about the fact that I took my 13 year old daughter to see Shrek on Saturday… and can’t decide whether to be skeeved out by the thread title, or proud that I’m protecting her morals ;).

Being “better” in this group isn’t saying much. In terms of number of tickets sold this was the worst Memorial Day weekend since 1993.

I like the excuses the SATC2 people are giving about how people don’t want to watch movies with rich people during a recession (which is the opposite of what worked best in the Great Depression), conflicts with playoffs and the Indy 500 (which are every year), etc. As opposed to just making a bad movie (15% Rotten Tomatoes).

Next up are Splice, Get Him to the Greek, Killers, and Marmaduke. The last two are guaranteed duds. Killers is even being marketed dud-style (limited previews, etc.). Given what Katherine Heigl has been doing to her career lately, it’ll be sooo easy to make “killer” jokes. Get Him to the Greek may be good enough for it’s target demo but probably won’t break out. Splice might be better than people expect but will have an uphill battle.

Everybody’s just waiting for Toy Story 3. On its opening weekend, 80% of tickets sold were for Iron Man 2. It’ll be interesting so see what percentage TS3 gets.
