Hi y’all,
I have a 79 Honda Goldwing (yes, I’ve tried to post this on motorcycle websites) with a bad voltage regulator. I’ve tried to replace it, and the replacement is also bad. Any who, the regulator is of the shunt type, no rectifier incorporated. Is there a car voltage regulator (year, make, model) that I can use? I can modify it to work on the bike. Must be shunt type.
Thanks.
By the way, the battery is new, and the reason I want to use a car regulator is price and durability. Motorcycle parts (especially for “classics”) can be marked up 1000% (yes, 10 times the price) or more, and a car regulator would probably be designed for more amperage.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What the heck, couldn’t hurt.
I am a member of a Suzuki forum that has a fantastic Techincal forums. Usually answers from Motorcycle shop mechanics etc. I often see questions answered for other bikes. It is called GS Resources, and you will have to register (it is free) to get into the Technical section.

p.s. I did a search for Shunt in the technical section and found a few matches, although no one was doing what you are.
