If it is who I suspect it to be, you are giving her EXACTLY what she wants, attention.
In my opinion, it’d be best (again my opinion) that people need to not give her attention and go about our daily business and kick some ass on people that don’t want it but deserve it, those being stupid cuz they need a knock up-side the head.
Some people thrive on bringing up fake stuff then thrive on the attention…something you stated “munchausen by proxy freak.”
I wasn’t directly involved (I don’t give money to strangers) but about 4-5 years ago a woman in my favorite AOL chat room gained the trust of a bunch of people. Her “relative” apparently posted stating that she had heart problems and many gave money to the woman because she needed surgery…you guessed it, it was a scam, she even had the nerve to come back in the room to apologize but we all knew it was a means by which to get attention – hell at least she got cash out of it.
Anyhow, be kind with your heart, tight with your wallet and on the internet and you will never be poorer by it. If nothing else, take the sadness you felt for the 'sposeded cancer ridden child and turn that to the poor soul that can’t find happiness other than to create such tales to make her heart feel better. In my eyes, she needs more than pity, but serious professional help that maybe she and her possible SO are not willing to fess up to.
Hey, it’s just my take…be pissy if you want, I am not happy over the events but at the same time you have to know that such scams are pretty common. It’s sad but sadder that the person can’t see that she is almost so lost that there is no turning back unless she seeks help now.
It reminded me, in a way, of Munchausen’s Syndrome by Proxy, in an odd sort of way. (You have to scroll down the page to read the author’s explanation of Munchausen’s, and the proxy variation).
It is a kind of mental illness, if that is what it is. At least when the child is invented, no child is actually being harmed to garner the attention.
But it wouldn’t have gotten her much real life attention, so more likely it is someone who enjoys some sort of power surge by trying to make others look like fools.
I don’t think the people who were taken in (myself included) were actually fools. As was said in the thread, it is better to err on the side of compassion.
We covered this sort of thing in my psych class not too long ago. Here’s the example that was given to me:
Bakc in the early-mid 90s there was a girl named Jennifer who “had been hospitalized 200 times and undergone 40 operations. Physicians had removed her gallbladder, her appendix and part of her intestines, and inserted tubes into her chest, stomach and intestines. . . . Then police notified her mother that she was under investigation for child abuse. Suddenly, Jennifer’s conditions improved dramatically. In the next nine months, she was hospitalized only once, for a viral infection. . . . Experts said Jennifer’s numerous baffling infections were ‘consistent with someone smearing fecal matter into her feeding line and urinary catheter.’” (Katel & Beck, 1996)
It was certainly a really sick thing to do but then again this person sounds pretty disturbed herself. I’m just praying that she fabricated Sonny as well as his ‘illness’.
Just sticking my head in here to say that I initially thought the OP title was something like a New York Post headline. I read it to mean that someone who was not well was having sexual relations with a mean-tempered woman.
I am pissed about this for sure, and I wish Crunchy Frog would let us know how much he knew about this little scam of hers. I want to believe he didn’t know about it, he even posted and did the card thingy.
I will not let this change how I respond to others who are in trouble or doubt everyone who says they are in need of support. How can I when I have received so much support and laughed and cried with so many here ? Why should I allow her stupid crap to make me become an untrusting uncaring person ? She isn’t worth it !

Unlike Coldy professional ethics don’t get in my way when I say this, Crunchy Frog, if you don’t get rid of her at least double bag it ! She is toxic as hell and makes you look bad too, but if you enjoy the trauma and drama more power to you, but please keep her on a leash when she deals with others, because we don’t enjoy it.
I’m so upset I can hardly type. My little sister died of cancer when she was four; reading the thread about that unspeakable brought it all back plus a little more. I hope through some galactic karma she’s feeling what I’m feeling right now. (No hugs or anything necessary - just wanted to present the fact that this isn’t a victimless crime - if you could see the original state of this post before I corrected the typos in each word, you would be better able to see how deeply this is affecting me.)
For those of us whose lives really are torched by cancer, its a heinous unforgiveable crime.

As to whether this crime is victimless, I would like to point out that now that I know she is a fraud I am going to have to remove her smiley from the DoperMap.
I am going to have to redraw the entire island of Tasmania by hand. Do you have any idea what that is going to do to the local culture?
By the way, those who offered to allow her to call collect, did you realize she claimed to live in Tasmania?
Second, I’m going to make an offer here in public for Crunchy. Hon, I want to believe SO MUCH that you didn’t know about this. You know my feelings on her, but I still like you very much as a friend.
I will make this offer: If you feel like you can’t make a statement on the board for whatever reason, email it to me, and I’ll post it. You can say what you need to without feeling attacked. I do think you need to say something, hon.
