Shall we try this again, with our focus on the right alleged drama queen?
Tania Head’s story of 9/11 survival doesn’t add up. To quote from myself in the mess that was the first attempt at talking about this, it’s part of the un-written code of the society we live in - you don’t fake tragedy. (Or maybe it actually is written somewhere. I don’t know.) Even assuming that she is psychologically impaired, I still don’t like her actions. But since I wrote that, Hilarity N. Suze has told us about someone he knows who has done something similar, who apparently is not mentally impaired. I find this very interesting - I think Tania Head has some kind of mental impairment, and I don’t like her actions, but maybe what she’s done is not all that unusual for a very unusual circumstance. What do you figure is going on with this woman, that she would do this?
One psychologist they interviewed said it is common for someone who had a tragic event in their lives that they cannot cope with, to project themselves into a subsequent tragic event and deal with the imaginary event instead of the real one. Not sure if this has a name.
I think she is just an opportunist. She was just an average joe with an average job and an average life. This was a way for her to be “important”, to be “somebody” so she made her claims.
I only opened this thread because “9/11” was in the title.
There’s already a two page thread on this:
Do you really need to give this nutjob 2 threads? It’s not like she drowned her kids in the bath tub.
For me, what this woman has done/is doing might be sad or might be rephrehensible, but they are small potatoes.
Of course, I find America’s continued obsession with 9/11 to be over-the-top, so I’m not as sensitive to someone “defiling” those memories as some.
Maybe this thread can concentrate on the woman and problem not her weight and bashing VCO3.
Damn, does that mean we can’t bash VCO3 in this thread too…
I say “Big Deal”, although she appears to have some mental issues that should be dealt with.
So the OP here helped hijack the other thread then starts a new one herself because the last one was so hijacked. Mmmmm’kay.
This is just a silly little news story. If you weren’t able to express the Outrage You Feel™ in the other thread, I would suggest that maybe it wasn’t that important to you. At least, not as important as proving “fat=nigger”. They’ll be another fresh Outrage down the pipe, don’t worry.
In the other thread I called it 9/11 by proxy. Sounds similar (though less serious) to moms who make their kids sick to gather sympathy. Some people *need *to be martyrs. Most just don’t go this far.
At the risk of sounding very, very cynical, it remains one of the very, very few moments in recent (I’m thinking 20 years recent) history that can be described as having a universal and national reaction. Whether you like or not or not, politics is by the very nature of the beast polarizing, so even when there are national elections the reactions are not going to shared equally across the nation, nor necessarily across the block.
9/11 for all its horror was also a day where a lot of things happened people could be proud of, too. For every asshole story there were many more nice people stories. Other than 9/11 what event of the past 20 years can you name that’s distinctly American? I can name a lot of things that I think would show up on lists, but nothing else that I’m sure would be on everyone’s list.
So, I believe that there’s a lot of emotion tied to 9/11 beyond the obvious tragedy. Which explains a lot of the anger towards this woman. There would be plenty of anger otherwise, I’m sure, but not this level if she’d hooked her star to some other tragedy.
Sorry, I thought I made it clear that this thread was basically a response to the other thread so that we might discuss the actions of this woman, instead of the poster who posted what was probably a purposefully inflammatory OP (inflammatory in the wrong ways, that is). For the record, if you look at my post in the other thread, I was trying to discuss this, rather than pile on the OP, and gave it up as fruitless.
I’m not sure about that; like I said before, people really respond viscerally to people who fake tragedy. This is one of those things that Just Aren’t Done. In some ways, it’s like how we respond with such outrage here to people who are caught lying and manipulating us. Someone trolling us really doesn’t affect our life, but we feel quite upset at being played for fools.
She’s obviously got a lot of problems. Hopefully she’ll get the help she needs.
I did say it was an exacerbating factor - not the only one.
What seems most disturbing me is she doesn’t appear to have come clean. I doubt she’ll be getting any help whatsoever until she concedes she made the whole thing up.
Don’t get your hopes up. Like many others here, I find her case to have a number of traits analogous to the pathology of Munchausen’s Syndrome. I wrote a general ed level article for publication a couple years ago on Munchausen’s Syndrome and Munchausen’s Syndrome by Proxy. For all the attention to Munchausen’s Syndrome by Proxy it’s the far, far more rare pathology. While Munchausen’s is rare, there are enough cases for statistical analysis to be useful, that wasn’t the case for Munchausen’s by Proxy, so it’s even harder to talk about that. Except to discuss known (alas) incidents.
At the time I wrote my article there had been a relatively recent study in Oregon about the effects of accurate diagnosis for Munchausen’s Syndrome. The study found two things that I remember. First - because most sufferers of Munchausen’s Syndrome exhaust their own resources and end up on public health rolls each accurate diagnosis of Munchausen’s Syndrome saved the State on average something like $200K. Second - even with the direct evidence in front of the patient they usually would never admit, nor accept, that what they were suffering from were self-inflicted wounds.
So treatment for Munchausen’s Syndrome patients is pretty bleak - they’re on a watch even tighter than suicide watch, and cannot be trusted with anything, even their own feces.
I don’t have much hope for this woman’s recovery, if she’s really suffering a variant of Munchausen’s Syndrome.
(FWIW, going on memory here for this information, so I may have some details wrong. Or outdated.)
I’d be all for a board rule where we can bash VCO3 in any thread, in any forum.
I think you are being incredibly misogynistic by saying in your thread title that this person is a woman. You should have said “individual.”
Also, the use of “appears” is discriminatory against blind people.
Why don’t you just say what you mean: that women are stupid, and people with disabilities should all be shot.
You are a jerk.*I disavow any responsibility for anyone who misses the sarcasm, or the reference to the other thread.
Oh yeah? Well, you’re a doodyhead.
