Whether this is some sort of Munchausen syndrome or other form of mental problem, this woman needs help. A lot of help.
Beyond that, I can’t get too outraged by this. Yes, there should be a level of decency when it comes to exploiting any tragedy and it should never be engaged in ($9.11 political donations, anyone?), ultimately, despite her apparent mental condition, she did a lot more good than harm. Yes, she garnered a lot (partially) undeserved sympathy for herself, and I’m sure her claims to have been engaged to David caused his family distress, but, to me, she used her exploitation of the situation to position herself to help others.
I hope she eventually comes clean or at least gets the help she needs to stop doing stuff like this.
Whether or not this woman suffers from a variant of Munchausen’s Syndrome is one question. But when people go to the extreme of injecting themselves with a solution of toilet water, or even straight feces, in order to maintain their appearance as victims suffering from a debilitating disease that does not respond to treatment, don’t you think that maybe, just fucking maybe, there might be something going on more than being an attention-whoring idiot?
Unlike a person who is malingering, the sufferer of factitious disorder (to use the current DSM-IV term for the condition) not only doesn’t get anything materiel from his or her hoaxing, but is willing to sacrfice everything in their need to present themselves as suffering: Jobs, health, finances, marriages, family, friendships all get fed into the appetite of the disease.
If the diagnosis is both predictive, and descriptive, and allows health officials to at least minimize the damage the patient is doing to themselves, what part of that seems inappropriate and unnecessary to you?
I seem to remember that KGS is a Scientologist so his feelings on psychiatrists is a deeply held personal issue with religious significance. We shouldn’t berate him for his religious beliefs.
You contradict yourself here, good sir.
And for the record I was just razzing you, psychiatry, Scientology and your similarities to each other at the same time.
eta: oh, and I guess I meant a winkie smilie rather than a sad smilie in the other post
Oh my understanding of English is just fine. No need for that silly link. I guess I should say that my lawyers would probably ask me to say it was a deliberate lampoon rather than a slur. Y oh, ever so tender MMV.
CarnalK, stop pretending to be a sociopath. I read your aura, I know what kind of person you really are. I have no desire to go ten rounds with you, my love.
You said, “I seem to remember that KGS is a Scientologist.” You claimed memory of an event that never happened. Either you lied, or you have incipient Alzheimer’s. Or, you were trolling. Which is it?
Interesting you would interprent my words that way.
