I swear WoodCM’s writing “style” sounds like it comes from badly written story-creation software.
That’s the spirit! Keep feeding me! Interesting, refering to a movie about santa-clause. You just reinforce my belief that people cannot think without said movies(and telly- or perhaps you saw the movie on telly?). Great enlightenment you accuse me of, and you quote a crappy movie! Ha ha. I suppose you are what is called in internet terms a troll? That is, a person who wants some sort of reaction?
Hey, you’ve got it. I’m proud to be a reactioniary(have I spelt it wrong - I don’t care!) Confession time. I love it! How many times have I got left? How much time have you got? Grounds for your belief? Your ground is made of quicksand, and you sink real fast. Of course this is no discussion - you should have realised this by now. This medium is false for a real discussion. You pretend (as I keep saying) that this possible. This is a place to display egoes (another confession- mine at least!).
Alright then, you say you want to debate about the existence of god. Well, not allout, but that is what you seem to infer. So I refer to my first post. Please tell me about your god. Anything, anything at all. Is it(for it seems it is now not a ‘he’, or even a ‘she’. Dou you mind refering to this god as an ‘it’?).
Is it a god of love? Who told you? Dou you believe in Christ? When was Christ born? Is it true he(I presume you dou not dispute it was an ‘he’) was born on the day we are all told? If he was not born on the day we are told then it is all false.
Argue this with me. I dare you.
Or don’t - I’ll let you off on this one. After all , I beleive in many things that truly happened, but we don’t know the full details of it. For example, there was this great battle that took place on palm sunday, 1461 (old calender), called ‘The Battle of Towton’. Did it? What actually happened that day? There are several accounts. One says that about fifteen thoudand men perished . Others say many more. Which is true? I don’t know. There is even confusion on what actual day it happened. A great mystery. Do we base a great religion on it? Maybe we should, for the suffering and heartbreak that occurred that day was many times greater than three men being crucified, watched by their families (which sound evil to me). The suffering of Jesus on that cross(itself debated) is nothing compared to the suffering of countless men who did not know they was the son of god.
It is said in one of the gospels that Jesus said ‘the meek shall inherit the earth’. Have you thought about this? What does it mean? Perhaps it is a wrong translation. You better hope so, for it is an EVIL THING TO SAY this. If it is a wrong tranlation, then it is false. I could go on and on in this vein, but my poor old copper line might conk out at any moment.
OK, so let’s forget about the new testament.
Oh, the Old Testament. It would not surprise you to know that I actually much prefer this(if you have paid close attention to what In have already written). It is much more honest. Life is really horrible and harsh - much closer to reality. Death and destruction everywhere! Is this god’s will? This has been done to death, and is so obviously false that it is amazing to me that anone beleives in this. Ad nausium, again and again.
So, Bible no good at all.
Perhaps you are of the Muslim faith. Oh dear, same thing.
Buddhist? I don’t think so, for (correct me if I am wrong), they say things that are totally contradrictary to your way of life. (Again- time hastens me on).
What else? Are there sacred texts that I do not know of, that you do? Please enlighten me.
In the end , it is your own feelings that come into it. Do you feel that God exists? Please describe your feelings. You feel you have an immortal soul? If you dou, then you are a very selfish person indeed. How dare you think you must live foreaver? If you can’t see that this is a very selfish thing, then I do not hesitate in calling you an evil person. You are a typical decadent person who wants everything. A spoilt brat - yes- childish. Examine all the great evil men of history, and they are childish. By wishing immortality you deny life to others. I have been called (in mockery) ‘enlightened one’. If this is enlightenment then I do not deny it.
I started this thread ranting on about being ‘sick to death’. Yes I am, sick to death of the selfishness of wanting to live foreaver. It is an evil thing to wish this, and very childish. That is putting it kindly. I have hardly begun to say how diabolical it is. I’ll be really browned off if all this hearfilled stuff I’ve said dissapears into elecronic-nowhere land. It is the truth damn you!
Yep. It’s time for the crazy bucket.
You know, posts like this make me want to start believing. It’s like those smoking ads from truth.org. Every time I see one of those pseudo-poignant commercials, I wanna go out and light one up, and I’m a runner.
Don’t worry, I’ll record most of what you say into a series of books. Did you want the virgin birth or revalation in exile?
How do you spell that noise where you flip your fingers up and down across your lips to indicate complete and total insanity? Something like “b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b…”
Yeah, that.
Uh huh. Just a half-step back. Okay, lift your arm. A little more. Turn… A-tat-tat-tat-tat, not that much. Lift your head. No, dammit. Try holding the aerial with your other hand. Okay, lift one foot and point your other toes north. Nah, still too much static. Try both hands. And stick out your tongue. That’s it! Now, don’t move.
Yeah, I know that sound. In fact, you have a vertical crack in your ass instead of a horizontal one just so it won’t make that sound when you go down a slide.
Usually, I find great comfort in idiots. Generally speaking, people who cannot spell or use proper grammar, have the debating techniques of an eight-year-old and are, well, obviously unintelligent, disagree completely with me about virtually everything. That’s good to know.
But then someone like WoodCM shows up, his plain idiocy bringing down my meticulously constructed walls of warm security.
Oh, and yes, Polycarp definitely is “what is called in internet terms a troll”. A very good one too; he’s managed to avoid the banhammer while being continously well-fed for five years. He’s the Patron Saint of Trolls. Idiot.
You know, while I’ve lived most of my life in America, I was born in England, and my father’s the last in a long line of Lancashire peasants. After reading WoodCM’s posts, I’m starting to think what he told me about Yorkshiremen might be true, at least in some cases.
I happen to be a devount Anglican. It gives me pleasure and, far more importantly, hope, and it’s solved some rather nasty problems for me, as well as being a way to make some very dear friends and sing some rather gorgeous music. I’ve read the arguements in favour of the rationality of atheism from people who’ve put it much better than our dear guest (tips hat to gobear), and, while atheism isn’t something I can embrace, it is something I can respect.
I like religious debates. I’ve learned a great deal about how people have come to their various points of view, and I appreciate all you’ve taught me. On the other hand, debates about American politics tend to leave me fed up with both sides, and debates about intricate points of law tend to make my eyes glaze over, therefore I stay out of them. There are also a couple of Christian message boards I won’t visit because I know doing so will enrage me. My suggestion to you, WoodCM, is to do the same. If you know a thread will outrage or bore you, stay out of it. I love opera. A good friend of mine doesn’t. Therefore, I’ll indulge in that particular pleasure without him, although we will both kid each other about it. If you don’t like religious debates and choose to stay out of them, no one will think any less of you. Indeed, I might argue you have more common sense than me! If you don’t like them and try to keep those of us who do from participating in them, then you don’t give me much reason to do anything but think poorly of you.
CJ
Funny, when I see them, I want to run, and I’m a smoker.
Sir, you humble me. I say this without irony or sarcasm at all. Your words are fine. I know I have been too vurulent - fanatic even. I wish I had your faith. I hate being an atheist. It is horrible!
You mention songs. I loved the hymns we used to sing at school and in church. ‘To be a pilgrim’. ‘Onward christian soldiers’. So many more that I can’t remember just now. I loved this Christianity of beautiful music, and still do. Handel’s ‘Messiah’ is still my favourite music. Contradiction abounds in my head!
I apologise to all for expounding my own faith of fanatic-atheism. I am in the wrong(for I contradict my own beleifs about spouting forth spite and bitterness). Yet I still think I am in the right trying to point out the total failure of modern faith, when we decadent westerners live in a world of greed and the worship of power that is quite beserk.
I am a very disturbed person, as many of you have quite rightly pointed out. Well, anyone who is not disturbed by the state of the world( my turn now), and of the evil humanity that pollutes it so, is mentally ill. In the country that I inhabit, those classed as ‘depressed’, are classed as ‘mentally ill’.
Those of you who know your history surely see similarities in the past!
all the best, CM Wood.
Since this was already bumped, I wanted to point out that this was really funny.
