I have a 17" LCD monitor set at 1280 x 1024 pixels.
At 800x600, it’s at least 5.
At 1024x768, it’s only 4 if you go full screen.
I don’t have a higher resolution. Buy me a new monitor and I’ll let you know. 
The separation line you put in counts as a line, I assume you realize.
The sig I have right now doesn’t take up more than four lines in a maximized browser window until I drop below 800 x 600. The monitor resolution needs to be added to the sig length rule, because there are gonna be a lot of us browsing the Dope with large monitors that can show a lot of pixels.
It’s still awfully darn large (3 lines on my screen) compared with others on the board.
You might want to lop out non-active categories and/or shrink the text size of possible.
I’m seeing 3 lines at 800 x 600 pixels (I have an older computer and monitor). I’m pleased.

So is the rule 4 lines at 800 x 600? That’s probably fair, cause anyone who browses the web with a lower resolution is going to have a miserable experience anyway.
