I also could see in his face right afterwards (yesterday), that he was heartbroken that the oath didn’t go well. He stays cool, but sometimes just a look says it all. Man, I’d hate to be his daughter and make him angry!

I think Obama handled it just right. Pretty sure Biden is on notice to stay on message and not deviate from the script. It was pretty inappropriate, especially given it was an honor for the appointees, and Obama, being a class guy, probably didn’t want to show up John Roberts.

I figure getting the elbow tap from Obama is kind of like a karate chop to the face from Chuck Norris.

Yes, that was the one TV interview Obama allowed of his daughters – at Malia’s request, as a birthday present to her. An Access Hollywood reporter sat down with the family on the Fourth of July for a chat. The text of the interview on that page doesn’t have that bit about discipline, and I haven’t watched the video clip on that page to see if it’s the expanded version I watched a while ago. What I recall is Malia answering the “What happens if you get in trouble” question with a reply along the lines of “He TALKS to us” (rolleyes). I had to laugh at the long-suffering way she spoke of it.

First, it really demonstrates that Obama does not think cheap shots at the expense of others is funny, not even when the shot is lighthearted and not even if the target is not a democrat. I think it sends the clear message that he expects better. I know that if I were in his staff, I would be mindful of that look on his face and think twice about some dig or joke I was about to say.

I agree with that. And I also think they both looked really, really frickin’ tired. Which is entirely understandable.

I am sure it was not staged, but it was perhaps fortunate. Justice Roberts looked a bit ridiculous at the inauguration. To me he seemed nervous before the flub. Today, he swore Obama in again, in front of witnesses, and wearing his official robes. Now, if Obama were just concerned about the oath being actually official, or political antagonists making as if it meant his presidency were not official, he could have any federal justice do the redo. But he did not. He got Chief Justice Roberts. It avoided making Roberts more of a figure of fun. And, by rebuking the Vice President for poking fun of the situation, he further made it clear that he respects Justice Roberts and will not tolerate anyone disrespecting him.

Even if it is petty. The OP wasn’t calling for blood. The OP didn’t blow things out of proportion. Biden isn’t exactly new to flubs. Unless he is kept under a rock he will have plenty. As long as there is an internet someone will point out every mistake of every politician of every party. Obama will not and should not be the exception. There were plenty of things to slam the previous president about. 90% of the shit that make its way to the Pit was petty bullshit. So yeah this is what will continue to be posted.
