I agree with this for the most part. The thing I don’t get about Biden though, is how, especially with his foreign policy credentials, he came up with arguably the worst idea for Iraq in the primaries- his partition plan. Was it that he was just trying to gain traction by having such an entirely different sort of plan than the rest of the field, but no actual intentions of following it through? Or, did he really think that was the best plan and shouldn’t that have at least raised some questions?
As far as the “incident” in the OP, I have the feeling we’ll be seeing more of this same sort of routine from this duo in the future; not that there was really much to see in the first place.
He had no choice but to apologize, it was a cheap and random and directed at the elderly widow of a former president. If Biden had made it he would have been on the phone just as quick. I mean yeah it was just a joke and it’s no reflection on his character, but I think you have to wait a bit longer before saying that Obama is never one for a cheap shot on camera.
Biden made a little joke, Obama APPEARED to hush it up.
Nothing to see here folks. We KNOW that Biden is going to give us 4 years of foot-in-mouth as the VP, since we know his record. It will give the comedians something to focus on while they try to figure out how and when they can make fun of Obama (see Chris Rocks comments on that subject http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/01/19/chris.rock.kill.the.messenger/index.html ).
I will reserve my pitting for when Obama actually does something that is not in the theme of Change or something. Right now, he is doing well.
I agree with you. The comment didn’t seem that offensive to me, and the Chief Justice ought to be able to take a little joshing from his peers in the other branch. But Obama seemed a little annoyed, and I understand that too, since he is probably thinking that he needs to emphasize that he is not Roberts’s enemy despite having voted against his appointment.
I think there are two things going on here: Obama and Biden are probably not the most compatible of personalities, plus Obama has the greater burden of anxiety that comes from being the top dog as opposed to the second banana.
I’d say this moment was not a big deal at all, but it might be an early sign of a very entertaining Abbot and Costello dynamic between Obama and Biden.
I’m thinking that Obama is already thinking that there are better people than Bident to be next in line and that Biden doesn’t really bring that much to the table. It’s also too good of a position to run for President from (despite the poor track record of success from the position) to waste on him. It will go to someone who Obama wants to tap as heir-apparent … maybe Hillary.
George HW Bush kept Quayle on as his veep candidate, and Danny wasn’t exactly perceived as rocket surgeon. In this day and age, I don’t think a candidate would want to deal with defending a change like that, unless there was some sort of scandal hitting the fan.
$50 says it’s not Biden in 2012. My guess is health; I think the guy’s squash is going–but it could end up being foot in mouth disease.
We need some sort of Future Predictions Message Board that gets hauled out when the Predictions expire so we can mock one another.
And a way to bet, too. Paypal or something?
Plus I think Mr Obama is going to have a great 8 years, so the smart Democratic thinking (that’s not an oxymoron, is it?) should be to get a 2012 running mate that can be groomed to be the 2016 Presidential candidate.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Biden declined to be renominated as Veep in 2012 (my guess for the stated reason: wants to spend time with his grandchildren), but this is a tad early for that sort of speculation.
Given that the folks who don’t like Obama blow up Federal Buildings in Oklahoma and stuff, the question may be who Clinton will choose as a running mate in 2012 and/or 2016.
The Bill Ayers myth is even more retarded than the birth certificate or the secret muslim myths. Guess what – nobody bought any of them. You lost in a landslide. Come up with something new.
