Significance of action by a character in Sands of Time

In Prince of Persia, Sands of Time, just after you beat a whole heap of sand creatures in the soldiers mess hall, you get the prince to jump onto a hole in a wall, and while he’s balancing there he rips off a sleeve of his shirt.

Just wondering if anyone remembers seeing this and understood the significance (If any) or maybe someone who understands Persian culture and knows if that action means something.

Thanks

Didn’t the other sleeve get ripped up/off in the cutscene? I thought he was just making them even (it’s been several months since the last time I played.)

From a game mechanics standpoint, you can tell where in the game you are just by the prince’s appearance; it changes subtly throughout the game–that and the sword upgrades are just the most obvious.

Maybe, I’ve just gotten past that bit and don’t have any ways to go back short of starting again. I’ll try and have a look at his character tonight and see if he’s even.

Just out curiosity TimeWinder was your username inspired by the Prince of Persia games?

Interesting theory, but no. I predate the Sands of Time by a couple years. I just wind time a lot. Doesn’t everybody?

I’ve had a closer look at the prince, he lost his other sleeve somewhere along the way. Oh well, maybe next time I can read deeply into a characters actions.

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.

Yep, I think he loses one sleeve earlier, and is just making them even. I didn’t read anything too deeply into that.

Of course there are other, less charitable, interpretations
