It would make sense for people that sign their post to actually put it in the “sig” field. Deep concept, I know. I’ve noticed some people feel that they should sign each post individually, and leave the sig for their catchy phrase of the day. And then you still see their name if you have sigs turned off.
I do it.
Tris
Maybe I should try.
- cow
Hm. maybe not.
And don’t forget…
It doesn’t bother me either.

I always liked the ‘Hugs!’ offered up by that there one-time poster.
Kisses!
Happy
Nah, it’s not the signature lines or the stock closings like “regards” or “peace”. I was talking about people who sign their screen name in the exact same form as it appears at the top of the post, and nothing else. Seems redundant to me. And not just redundant in the sense that it’s in every post, but redundant in the sense that the information is already there in that post.
Nor me.

Shodan
Or Seethrusart!

Lots of times I’ll read a thread without checking to see who made every single comment. When the name is at the end, it does tend to bring the poster to my attention. Of course, now that I’ve said that, all of us attention whores will do it forevermore.
Fortunately I don’t mind it.

Shodan

Well, Shodan - maybe we should all just type our names every couple of lines.

That way, you would be assured that the poster’s member name is always fresh in your mind,
blowero
and then you would never have to do any unneccessary scrolling again.

I think signing one’s name at the end of a post is a bit pretentious. I also think the new board format, with the poster’s name in 18-point type, is a bit pretentious. If I were a bit more pretentious myself, I’d probably be really upset about it.

Why would I always need to be asked Who Wants Jelly Donuts (WWJD)?
I like it. Especially the thing one poster does with the 1 line comment after his name. But I can’t remember the name offhand.
By “1 line comment”, I mean that this poster always puts his name down, and then under it writes a comment that in some way relates to his post. It’s usually humerous. I was a bit vague in my last post, sorry.
merijeek? Who does this sort of thing:
joe, helpfully
Because it’s an absent-minded hangover from letterish protocols.
Because it’s a minor personal quirk, less annoying than, say, uncontrollable drooling.
Because I don’t use smilies or sig lines.
Because a sign-off as Veb seems friendlier.
Because it has not caused death, destruction or deep, lasting trauma.
Because if has caused deep, lasting trauma…oh well.
Veb
That’s Tripler.

Francis
Whose name isn’t Francis, but knows what you mean.
No, that’s Mtgman.
