Signing your member name at the end of your post when it's already there at the top

No, that’s definitely Tripler.

Any Day Above Ground Level Is A Good Day

I knew the name began with a “T”!

Hey, if it makes you feel better to sign your name, or write “regards”, then I think that’s super. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, the main reason I use a closing and a signature is because it does feel like I’m writing a letter and just stopping when I get to the end feels to abrupt. I also spend a lot of my time in GD and here, where things can get rather heated. I’ve offended a lot of people unintentionally, and I do know that some people think disagreeing with them, especially on weighty issues such as morality and religion, is tantamount to insulting them. There have also been times when, frankly, I’ve had to try hard not to insult them, just try to tear their arguments apart. Since I don’t want to cause offense unless I mean it, if there’s a chance my arguments might be read insultingly, I’ll sign off with “Respectfully”. The last reason is, let’s face it folks, I’m incredibly long-winded, so I may as well remind you of who’s been filling up your screen.

This thread has a surprising surreal quality to it. I give it three stars.

HEY! YOU … ::checks forum:: … STINKY POOHEAD!

At Fametracker, signing your name at the end of a post is a big no-no. It does make the conversation seem to flow a little bit more smoothly…but since a smooth flow of conversation is damned near impossible here, I don’t think it’s an issue.

Back in BBS days I signed everything:

-----> Hamadryad
Maaaan, does that take me back…

Yeah, what she said.

– Uke

Besides, if she signs off as Veb, she is less likely to be addressed as Thorstein.

The funny thing is that the spacing’s off on the first line and it looks like the skeleton has a combover that’s flopping off. Heh.

Annoying too.

I don’t do it because readers would just think I’m reminding them my post has come to a conclusion

It would make sense it it were to bring attention to your personal credentials, if necessary…

Always give the audience a big bang at the end to tell them when to clap.

Why do I do it? A bunch of reasons, I suppose. When I started it was the practice at my firm to initial anything you’d written, so there was a certain amount of habit there. And it just seemed inappropriate to write this big long post without signing it.

I do remember going to a LonDope after being on the board for about a year and being shocked that it had actually become something of a recognition factor for me. After that, I guess I was always going to continue with it. But originally it was just an entirely genuine and natural thing to do.

–bj0rn-- insert random weirness here

You mean your name isn’t Pan? I always thought it was! I thought it was cool that you had the same name as a debauched mythological figure. Oh well.

–Bean, who did sign her name with a comment for about 5 minutes back when she first joined the boards.

Got nothing to say. Just wanted to

Shodan

Well, my initials are pan. And I use them a fair bit. Is that not good enough?
