Signs of spring?

Outside of Albany.

Last night I saw geese flying north and now we’ve got hyacinth. Of course, the forecast also shows snow coming up. :smack:

One day I was walking back to work from my lunch break, on one of those northern spring days when the sun is bright, there are still snow-mountains in parking lots from the plow, and rivulets of melt water running through gutters. As I walked across a street, I saw a marble in the gutter. Back in those days, children played games with real marbles, not virtual ones on a screen in their bedrooms, and they sometimes lost them. When I saw that bright marble in the grimy slush, I had this wonderful “Spring is here” rush embrace me, and I always think of that when I ponder the coming of the spring season.

Here in south Texas, the white-winged doves have been back for a couple of days, and today I heard a woodpecker hammering in a tree, probably a red-bellied.

Heck, you might make 4th of July. Those are fun years.

February can be a tease. Yes we are getting more sunshine, but March historically gives us the most snow. With April next.

Spring is when the skiers leave and the mountain bikers have not yet arrived. We call it mud season. It’s a bit of a mixed bag.

65 degrees in February in MI. It’s a sign of something. Hopefully it’s a sign of early spring.

Back when Heavenly was privately owned, you could ski as long as there was snow. Used to ski well into May and once, June.

Now Vail owns it, and they’ll shut it down in late April, no matter how much snow is left. They got their money. Screw the skiers.

Down here in Virginia, we have viola bicolor, bird’s eye speedwell, henbits, deadnettle and dandelions starting to bloom. Not to mention the more cultivated stuff such as crocuses/daffodils/cherries/etc. Looks like the weather’s going to be in the 60s for the foreseeable future, so I’m guessing the spring is here to stay at this point.
