Signs - possible Spoilers

I say “possible” because I don’t think this question is a spoiler. but it may prompt some spoilers.

Anyway, Mel Gibson plays a priest. People call him “Father” and he wears the white collar. My question is, is there a Christian sect that allows Fathers to marry and have kids? This bothered me through the whole movie. He really makes it look Catholic, but the wife and kids thing… It kinda drew me out of the movie.

The character is Episcopalian. I believe Lutherans also use the term “Father”.

Yep – Episcopalian. They also use the term “Reverend” in the movie, and that is a title used for Episcopalian priests. (Not sure whether Catholic priests use that title, but I don’t think so…?)
