There’s been a huge amount of love for Sigur Ros on Radio 1 and its evening shows and I’m definitely intrigued by their stuff. I’ll probably pick up their new album and if it’s any good start checking out their back catalogue. Any recommendations other than () ?
Agaetis Byrjun is their best, imo.
ETA I don’t think the new album is all that great - I’d go with () and AB, myself.
Thanks - downloading AB now.
Okay, listening to the album, it’s really nice. I kind of wish I knew what the hell was being said in the songs but it’s of secondary importance to the atmosphere (completely the right word to use) evoked by the music and the emotional response it elicits. I could easily imagine this playing in the background whilst having a lazy afternoon nap with a lover.
Don’t we all.
(despite the fact that it sounds like they’re always singing in Icelandic, the lyrics for several of the songs are sung in a made-up language - in fact, () is entirely sung in gibberish)
Ah, thanks, I just assumed it was a Scandinavian language. Well that’s fine, I can just give it my own meaning then.
Hang on - if () is effectively gibberish, how do they reproduce their songs at later dates? That must be really difficult to do.
Not really. Hell on one album, (the white one) He mostly says “you-sai, you sai-awn” and not much else. FTR most Icelanders Ive met like their music but think he’s a bit of a twit.
I love this band. I honestly think they put out the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard.
