Sigur Ros on Last Call

I googled for their performance on Carson Daly’s show last night, but I can’t find anything specific. Can anyone tell me the name of the song they played?

the song is called untitled #1 (working title Vaka)
it is from their latest album ( )

Yes, it’s untitled tracks on an untitled album. And if you buy the CD, you’ll get the website’s address, but the cover, spine, liner notes and disc are otherwise completely void of text- nothing but white space and silhouetted (tree-like?) patterns.

It’s kind of weird.

What’s the deal with this band, I heard they could be the next revolution in rock music.

I like Sigur Ros quite a bit, but rock music? Really? I’d put them in the “atmospheric music” category.

Rock like Radiohead is rock. So I guess, not rock. “Atmospheric music”, is that like those “Sound of the Whales” CD’s? I’m being facetious, but please educate me to this stuff, I’m more of a pickup-truck-rock/ heavy metal fan, but I like to get into just about anything.

No, sorry. Not sounds of whales and crickets atmospheric rock, but well, it’s sort of difficult to explain. Or difficult for me. Sigur Ros is not drums and guitars rock and roll. Largely instrumental, and although they sing, the lyrics are fairly simple and well, almost “chanty.” Think the more ethereal musical parts of Bjork except without her voice. They are from Iceland (great country) & use interesting instruments. I’m not doing them a service here, am I? I wish I could tell you where to legally download clips so you could see. I think it’s a nice change/break from plain ole rock and roll.

Well, I can just KaZaa it now that I’m home. I’ll be back in a while to give my analysis…

and it will be my 100th post!!!

Happy 100 to me.

And then…

It’s definately interesting.

Oh, and the review at amazon of their new CD is where i got the revolutionary quote from. I’d say that this would be good to put on if you were engaging in sex acts, or on drugs (or both  ), but not really something i’d put on while cruisin’ down the street (long car trip, perhaps…). Not bad, I know they did a show in NYC recently, but I didn’t know enough to check it out. Now I do.

Iceland is amazing by the way, from what I hear. Apparently it’s the new place to go for a long weekend (only like 5-600 bucks). Hmmmm, i’ve got my tax return check staring me in the face

Being a copyright-type person, I cannot suggest the use of something like Kazaa, but …

Yes, Iceland is absolutely amazing. I went last year and am eagerly looking to return. If you get the chance to, go!*

No, I wouldn’t listen to Sigur Ros on a long drive. It would take me to daydream land way too quickly.

*I am not from Iceland. I don’t know anyone from Iceland. I do not get paid to endorse travel to Iceland. But I should, with the times I’ve told friends and strangers to visit. The only caveat I give is things, esp. eats, are expensive. For reference, Big Mac in Reykjavik? Almost $8.

if you visit http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk
there are loads of mp3s to download.
As well as being a great band they are cool about taping at shows and distributing on web!
some handy bite sized info:
they sing in a mix of icelandic and hopelandish, a made up language.
Jonsi, the singer and guitarist, plays with a violin bow.
and, oh yes, they are immense live.
