I retract my post, I see it is post number 5. Ok, now that is going a bit far. I don’t wish harm on the cast, but I’ll not watch their movies or TV series by choice.

Personally, I think posters like silenus miss the point of Jackass and it’s kind. Entertainment like this used to be quite common, usually as part of carvival sideshows and circuses. The guys in Jackass are working in a long tradition exemplified by the old-fashioned geek show and Grand Guignol Theater. P.T. Barnum made a fortune putting stuff like this on display in the 19th century, so it’s kind of tiresome to hear people proclaiming Jackass signals the decline of Western Civilization. It shows ignorance of history.
I actually think it takes a certain craziness that is not common to do deliberately what the guys in Jackass do. I would gladly pay money to see someone crawl over a pit of alligators with a raw chicken dangling from his groin or get shot with a taser gun. At least there’s REAL risk, which is more than I can say of pro wrestling.

Errr, ummm, yes except the last part. I don’t like pro wrestling either but people have died and sustained permanent injuries doing it, even recently. See the Blue Blazer (died in the ring) and a guy named Puke (was permanantly paralyzed in the ring) - both in the WWF. I’m pretty sure that there have been others but I can’t think of any off the top of my head. I know Cactus Jack has done some pretty serious permanant damage to himself, but he’s still walking AFAIK.

Yes, people have been injured in pro wrestling, but that was only when a stunt was performed wrong, or because of some unforseen risk that was not supposed to be there. Compare this to a tightrope walker, who is deliberately courting a clear and evident risk, or pro football players, who are hitting each other for real. Pro wrestlers use a lot of techniques that give the appearance of danger and violence, but really don’t involve either. As such, what they do is a show or a performance, not a sport. It’s all appearance, no substance. This can’t be said of the cast of Jackass–they’re in real pain.
This point may be a bit removed from what I was trying to say though. Perhaps pro wrestling was a bad example of the point I was originally trying to make.
