There seem to be a lot of cat stories, so I’ll share mine. Once, I had to make an unexpected trip out of town for the weekend, and had to leave kitty alone for two days and two nights, with plenty of food and water, of course.
When I got home late on Sunday night, she met me at the door and meowed over and over and over, as if to say, “I missed you”, and following me around the house non-stop for several hours. Or perhaps she was saying, “why the hell did you leave me alone?” It made me smile to know that a cuddly little creature missed me.
When the little Torqueling sprints off at high speed on some Great Mission. It may be that she’s going to cut paper into a random shape and then tell us it’s a bird or a butterfly; it may be that she’s going to put on a dress-up outfit. Whatever it is, it’s awfully important that it be done Right Now. So, there’s a sound of rapidly-thumping feet, and suddenly a girl-shaped blur appears, red hair streaming behind, and then it’s gone. She just whips from one room to another on these Missions of Great Urgency. Makes me laugh every time.
Another cat story (I have 7 cats, and they all bring me a lot of joy!):
A month or so ago, my little tabby Tessa (aka Bug) picked up an upper respiratory thing. Instead of sneezing, though, she drooled. Heavily. It really looked quite alarming. After taking her to the vet and getting assured that she’d be fine, we took her home and did our best to make her happy. She’s kind of skittish, though, and doesn’t really like to be held or cuddled unless it’s her idea.
One night when she seemed like she was feeling particularly down, the spouse said, “Why don’t you pick her up and just put her next to you on the couch while we watch TV?” I shook my head, knowing she wouldn’t stay, and I didn’t want to upset her further by stressing her out. So he picks her up, puts her down gently next to him…and she did stay! She rolled up into a little ball next to his leg and he sat there for several hours with his arm wrapped around this little sleeping kitty. It was the sweetest thing ever.
She got better soon after that, and ever since then she’s been more cuddly and much less reluctant to run away when picked up or petted.
Why, thank you! May your jackboots always be shined to perfection.
