Simcity 5 Doper region organizing thread

On Origin I’m ‘Atlastripped’.

Creosote is completely stangled by traffic.

The intercity highway is backed up to the horizon. Emergency vehicles cannot get through. Garbage piles up despite a surplus of trucks inching through the streets. The once-full schools have record low attendance while the children spend days on a single bus trip. Coal mining has ground to a halt, since the mines and all three trade depots are at full capacity wondering where all the trucks have gone.

After touring other cities in the region the mayor has realized the counterintuitive fact that Creosote has too many damn roads. The Creosote Public Works Department (CPW) has begun an agressive bulldozing campaign aimed at reducing redundant roadways and intersections, which will continue into the near future. Meanwhile the mayor is pleading with out of town visitors to take advantage of our multiple public transit options, including the intraregional ferry, train, buses and commuter airport.

Speaking of traffic, I read a couple articles last night indicating that Maxis has realized that the traffic AI is flawed and that they will be releasing a patch shortly to allow traffic to take alternate routes to a destination when the shortest route is full. I hope that comes out soon. There is a video on Youtube showing sim cars lined up for miles waiting to take a dirt road to a rock concert while a parallel high-density road sits empty.

This is, in fact being worked on. Here’s a video from a Maxi developer, showing cars intelligently choosing a less congested route: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVkw9mWonNA

[And it looks like the game is running at cheetah speed. When are they going to bring that back?]

Don’t go through the join game screen. You need to accept the invitation from the “Mail” button on top right.

I recently discovered the Sapleton Vista in Slugsworth doesn’t have any garbage facilities. It’s being completely serviced by the trucks from other cities. Thank you and please send me more! I’ve been sending a lot of police, fire and medical trucks to everyone else. I’ll have recycling trucks out there soon, too.

The weekend’s coming up and we might have a good number of Dopers playing the game more or less simultaneously. Is there sufficient interest to set up another 16-city region? I’m thinking we could develop Viridian Woods this time.

This looks to be double XP weekend for Planetside 2, so I might be playing that rather more, and I’m not really quite done with my other two cities, especially if they fixed some stuff. But if you do start a new one, go ahead and toss me an invite.

I’m up for making another attempt at an industrial-based city. We could also try developing some dedicated resource cities in a 16-city region, like a city full of water towers and power plants.

I’ll certainly join another region if we set one up, but I’m also keen to fix my city in Slugworth to at least get the coal flowing again.

Yeah, I not nearly close to being done in Slugsworth yet (We still have to build a Great Work!). And I hope they fix casinos soon so I can revitalize my city in Ceciltopia. But I’ll set up another 16-city region and invite everyone I can.

Hmm… I don’t have any game invites then. Strange that you can’t just search for a region, because apparently you can view regions that are public even if you aren’t playing them. You’d think that they would have provided the ability to search for a region in that case.

Anyway, I’d be happy to play a weekend game if you want to invite me.

I’d still like to see some great works in Ceciltopia. Maybe after that casino is fixed? But it might not be terrific to spread ourselves so thin.

Point taken about not spreading ourselves too thin. But I’ve got some Dopers on the waitlist and others in Ceciltopia who wish they could restart. So I’ll take this opportunity to announce:

New Ceciltopia is now open for business!

Nestled in the scenic Viridian Woods, New Ceciltopia provides numerous opportunities for aspiring mayors to build not-so-massive cities. Build your hi-tech university town or rape the earth to extract every last ounce of precious, precious ore.

New Ceciltopia. Don’t visit just once, for 20 minutes. Make it your home today!

Are you sending invites to the usual suspects?

Invites already sent. I’ve snagged Tudor Isle (soon to be renamed Terminus Isle) for myself. An interesting site as the oil fields are out on an island, which is upwind from the mainland where I would normally place all my residents.

New Ceciltopia has gotten off to a fine start, with six cities already founded and total population 143,961. I’ve already setup my oil well and power plant in Terminus Isle, which is ready to provide power to whoever can connect to me. Check out Riverside: Mayor Keeene has ignored all the coal, ore, and oil under his city and made a beeline straight to electronics. With more than 100,000 residents, he’s already unlocked the arcology for the entire region.

Hey, I’ve been reading the Dope and the message board for a while now but haven’t registered or posted anything up until now… I figure now is as good a time as any!

I just Downloaded SimCity last night and finally got it updated and running today! I’m just about to go through the tutorial and jump into the game, and I would love a spot in New Ceciltopia if you guys have an open city!

My Origin Username is iDavidW95 and I hope to contribute some High-Tech industry to New Ceciltopia, unless somebody’s already got that covered of course

Let me know if you’ve got any room left

Swandive cliffs is open for business, but I haven’t been able to get back into the city today. I’ll keep trying - someone’s got to help those tourists find a meaningful end to their existence.

I would be interested in the new region as well. Wolf island is at a dead end until they get some fixes, its railroad isn’t connected, and you can’t get enough tourists in through the highway to be profitable.
