Welcome to the Dope, iDavidW! I have, in fact, invited everyone from the original Ceciltopia region plus a few others into New Ceciltopia. If everyone accepts, then we will actually be full up. If there are still open slots after a few days, I’ll be sure invite you in. In the meantime, stick around, contribute to some threads, make a few threads of your own. We’re a (mostly) friendly bunch and won’t bite (much).
As of 4:00 pm EDT today, New Ceciltopia boasts a population of 210,656. The cities of Wolfland Arbor and Robot City have been established. Knorf, who had claimed Traviata Knoll yesterday, has started to develop it, renaming it Villatraviata. With the establishment of a municipal airport in the region (not sure who did this) the International Airport has become available for construction. At least four of the six city hall upgrades have been built in the region, so almost everything has been unlocked. Most notably, no one has built a Finance Department yet, which means we can’t tax the different wealth classes separately.

I thought I had a good handle on traffic. Minimize the number of intersections. Don’t build a crossing too close the the entrance of the map. Channel the traffic into separate neighborhoods. Petrol Terminus, my city in Slugsworth was coming along nicely, harvesting the oil fields and churning out plastic and fuel. Then I hit 50K population and BAM! instant gridlock.
Desperate to get my traffic moving again, I started to poke around the transport data layers. It was in the bus view that I noticed something disturbing. A line of regional buses from four other cities waiting to get into town. There are hordes of these vehicles crawling the streets of my poor city. Just look at them all.
I haven’t solved my traffic problem. But I did manage to activate the trade port, so my export economy isn’t dependent on trucks managing to get through the ravenous packs of buses.
I must say, Riverside rocks.
I, on the other hand, am in a race to see whether I can burn my city to the ground before I drown my citizens in sewage. My city managers ought to be fired.
I mm finding it hard to find time to play at the moment so if you were holding a spot for me, feel free to pass it on
Sorry about that. We miss you in Slugsworth.
Hey, iDavidW, if you can get on to the NA East 2 server, I’ll send you an invitation. Getting on might be a problem, though, as the server has been full since Friday.
I think I’ve really screwed the pooch in Bravington Pointe. I can’t get my residential zones to increase their density and oil does NOT last very long. Estimates are just a few months worth of production.
I’ve built the refinery upgrade in Terminus Isle, which should also let you build refineries. Start importing crude and refining it into fuel; much better profit margins.
I am trying a trade city this time. I have no idea how it actually works.
Does anyone want to start a great works project? I’ve got enough to pay for it, but I don’t want to start one unless everyone else agrees. We have either the arcology or the international airport available in our zone.
As a tip of the hat to SC2000, I think we should go for the arcology. (And I could also use the workers.) I can send some simoleons your way, if necessary.
Does anyone use street cars?
On the other hand, I’ve got plenty of crude oil, which I could directly contribute to the International Airport.
I’ve had some succcess with them. It helps to lay the track in a loop rather than branching all over the place.
My city is full of streetcars.
I’ve kicked off an Arcology. But apparently it takes quite some time to be ‘approved’.
Can we get some pictures of your cities? C’mon, you know you want to show off your city.
Have you found that mixing zones works well or is it best to keep them separate?
Also, this:
Thanks! I’m having trouble getting my Electronics to the next level though. We’re running with a significant budget deficit right now but the processor sales are making up for it.
And now I’m afraid the city might be screwed. I was playing tonight and got a message that my city was not processing correctly and I had to quit to the main menu. Then it asked me if I wanted to roll back to a saved state or abandon the city. I selected ‘roll back’ but now I can’t launch the city again. This happened with one of my earlier cities too. It’s very frustrating. I’ll keep trying to get back in.
At least I learned a lot about traffic management in Riverside, though. I abandoned the block-by-block layout and went for a big wheel layout with radiating spokes which seemed to work pretty well. Traffic was still a bitch especially during rush hours, but at least I didn’t have cars lined up on the highway all the way to the horizon twenty-four hours a day.
I’ve signed up to send metal to the arcology. It’s going to take a while to import enough. I think Mayor Keeene is specializing in electronics. He could probably send TVs.
x-post with Skammer: Uh-oh. I hope we can get those TVs.
Hey guys,
While I continue to wait for the NA East 2 Server to be available again, anyone needing some extra city slots can make themselves at home in a newly discovered habitable area found in Antarctica!
I know, I know, everybody though Antarctica was just miles and miles of ice… But I knew something was up! I went on an expedition and happened to find a temperate area perfect for building cities!
I have called this Region “SimTopia” and it’s got 16 spots, one of which I have claimed and founded as the city of “TownPlace”
TownPlace is growing steadily with a population of 33,000 Sims and already has the Departments of Tourism, Transportation and Utilities up and running! We are powered by wind and solar power and have invested in a sewage treatment plant as to minimize our negative effect on future neighbors in our region. We can even provide power, water, police, fire and recycled plastics to newcomers!
I’d made it public in the hopes of some other SimCity players moving in, but so far nobody has joined… Anybody who would like a slot is welcome to join by visiting the Antarctica server and searching for it (I didn’t check if there was a search bar in the game select screen, but I assume there should be…)
Alternatively, feel free to add me on Origin and I’ll send you a game invite! My Username is iDavidW95
I hope to see you guys in the game soon!
Side note: I’m trying to come up with a catchphrase for SimTopia… “Warmest Place in Antarctica” is the best I can think of so far…
Cluster A (the best cluster in all of New Ceciltopia) has initiated the construction of an arcology. The massive building promises to houses tens of thousands of Sims in climate-controlled comfort. In other news, Mayor Krinthis (AKA LonelyFatKid) joined the region and immediately grew the town of Rousseau Flats to a population of more than 140,000. All city hall upgrades have been unlocked.
As of midnight, New Ceciltopia had a total population of 595,148.

Here’s a pic of my trucks bringing the first load of metal to the arcology. Each truck brings ten tons to the construction site. As you can see, the arcology takes 2,800 tons of metal, plus 1,00 tons of alloy and an ungodly number of TVs, so construction is going to take a while. The rest of the album shows my city, Terminus Isle.
