For cluster B, I’m thinking a Space Center… I’ve already got a university set up and I’m looking to put in a college of engineering to develop the plans for the Space Center.
I’ll foot the bill for the start up cost on the project, and I’ve got plenty of fuel for the construction!
And Rand, I’ll add another reactor to my nuker in the morning ;D
I think my recycling plants might be borked. I’m getting really frustrated with all the bugs and think I may take a break from the game for a bit. Tomorrow I’ll go in, take out a bunch of bonds, set up plenty of services to help out the other cities in my cluster, and upgrade my power and water as well. That should provide a good bump to everyone else.
Yeah, see my post about foreign material in your recycling stream. I’ll send some more simoleons your way so you can bulldoze and rebuild your plants. Make sure you bulldoze your plants at night, when all the trucks have come back to their garages. I don’t know whether it makes a difference, but it’s better not to have any recycling trucks in foreign territory.
I really don’t quite get the shopping need. One building will be unhappy due to lack of shopping while the next one will say it’s great; and they’ll be a bunch of commercial a block away.
Rat Portage grew significantly last night; I managed to build the Mining HQ with the Engineering upgrade for the advanced coal mines. But I need to start thinking ahead about what I’m going to do when the coal dries up. I’m trying to produce metal to recycle. My recycling plant is maxed out on collection trucks but it still is shut down half the time with nothing to process while my citizens complain that the recycling is piling up in their driveway. I guess I need to follow some of my trucks and see what they’re doing all day.
Is there an in-game command to take a screen shot? Last night I wanted to get one of the 19 Rosseau Flats buses lined up at one of my stops blocking traffic. I have over 135,000 residents now but they are dwarfed by the number of tourists – I have no idea what they’re coming for, although I did plop the Leaning Tower of Pisa for fun.
I wanted to let you guys know I’m still really enjoying your stories about your cities. Your successes and failures (but especially the failures!) are really entertaining.
It’s unfortunate the number of problems this game is having. I was really excited about it, because I’ve lost untold hours to SimCity 2000 back in the day (I even fired it up in dosbox a few days ago… Still crazy fun), but it really sounds more and more like this isn’t the SimCity game I want to play. The lack of a sprawling landscape or customized terrain, coupled with the total failure of immersion with traffic and itinerant sims taking the first job they see, really bums me out.
When the Mac version came out, I thought I was going to snap it up and hop into a cluster with you guys, but now I think I’ll wait until it’s part of a steam sale for $20 or so.
I still have high hopes for the game, but not 'till after they get the bugs ironed out and introduce larger maps.
Also, I think that the best region I’ve played so far is the 7-player one where everybody is connected by road. The only benefit of the 16-player region that I can see is that you get more advancements to share, but you’re also only connected to three cities.
I think it has something to do with wealth levels. A low-wealth Sim won’t shop at a higher wealth store. Also, if you have tourists, some commercial buildings will have converted to hotels. I think native Sims won’t stay at hotels, and so can’t satisfy their shopping needs there.
Yes, please take screenshots! I’m the only one that’s been posting pictures of my cities so far. “C” takes a screen shot, “V” takes a video. The files will saved in your “My Documents” folder, under “SimCity”. To show off your screenshots, I’ll recommend getting an Imgur account, like I have; it’s quick and anonymous.
You’re going to be waiting a long, long time for this, as SimCity is Origin only.
Since they first started showing off the GlassBox engine a year ago, the developers made it clear that the Sims are mindless agents just like water and sewer agents. So workers going home and taking the first house they encounter doesn’t bother me. In fact, it makes it easier to plan out the city to take their behavior into account. (However, I still can’t fathom why my firetrucks would circle a burning building without putting it out. They would stop at the neighboring buildings to put out fires there, but not the original fire.)
The small plot size can be limiting. But I’m currently having great fun in Terminus Isle transitioning from an oil drilling city to making electronics, all within the small confines of the plot (I won’t dignify it by calling it a “city”).
What’s really annoying are the damned bugs that are being exposed, now that the server problems have been mostly fixed and people can actually play the game - the casino nerf, the recycling center bug, the Hotel California visitors (“you can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave” - yeah, I think that’s a bug). I haven’t lost any cities, yet; that would probably be rage-inducing. I’m surprised Skammer’s still playing the game.
I tried joining, but there doesn’t seem to be any way of telling the game that you want to join a particular region. (Well, other than loading all of the games on the server and waiting until New Ceciltopia showed up…)
They said they were going to offer a Mac version of the game in the spring. Although, I suppose that could be another unfulfilled promise.
I guess the fact that it doesn’t work bothers me more than if it had never been included in the first place. Running a city by statistics makes sense from a meta-level city organizer point of view. Having every sim drive down a lonely road to a single house, see it’s occupied, pile up in traffic, and then head to other neighborhoods is just silly.
Overall, I can plainly see you guys are having a ton of fun playing it, and is probably really enjoy myself too. I’m just sad the issues this game has have moved it from “must buy” to “wait for a steam sale.” I’ll go cry into my StarCraft: HotS
I’m still working on getting the plans together for the Space Center, however if you guys would rather do the International Airport, I can go ahead and start that up…
I think the Intl. Airport might be better suited to the resources we have in Cluster B, as I’ve got Alloy, plenty of Crude Oil (for now…) and can mine some ore for the metal if needed…
BREAKING NEWS
Cluster B in New Ceciltopia has applied for permits regarding a new International Airport. Funds for the ground breaking have been pledged by the city council of Monet Plateau. More updates as we get them!
RandMcnally Yep! I have plenty of excess water and sewage treatment capacity if you need it.
Also: Does anybody have a ferry dock? I built one and people are getting on the boat(s) but I don’t know if they’re actually going anywhere…
I stumbled across the answer to this: Radiation will clear up after 20 years and turn into ground pollution. To clean up ground pollution, you can plant trees.
Yep. That’s how your town connects with other towns not on your highway but on a waterfront. It functions the same way as a passenger station for trains.
