I’ll see what I can donate to the airport. Do you need… [checks trade depot]… metal?
The misleadingly named city of Rat Portage is sadly landlocked. Actually only half misleading; we have plenty of rats. But we have a thriving tourist trade through our passenger train station.*
*There’s no way to improve a train station is there? I’m always getting complaints that there aren’t enough trains but there’s not much I can do about that.
Incidentally, I picked up Dead Space 3 as my free game. I have little interest in racing games (Need for Speed) nor have any desire to play an on-the-rails modern military shooter (Battlefield, Medal of Honor) and the other options were even less appealing, except maybe for Simcity 4.
Dead Space 3 is a shoot-alien-zombies-in-spaceship game. Lots of dark corridors and jump scares. It’s a third person shooter, with the sense of claustrophobia heightened by having the camera focused more tightly than normal on the protagonist. You can pick stuff up and craft your own guns if you want. It’s actually pretty cool.
Apparently I can’t see what’s going on at another Great Work site; I can only see what’s happening in my own cluster. You guys in Cluster B will have to report on your own progress.
I finally managed to upgrade the Electronics HQ and plop the Consumer Electronics Division. Once my oil field runs dry, I’ll convert the area to make TVs and start sending them to the Arcology.
Johnny, I sent you some more simoleons. Should be enough to rebuild your recycling center. Let me know if you need more.
The airport is in Phase 2, so we’re making progress. I’ve been sending all the metal I recycle but my recycling plant spends more than half the time idle because the trucks aren’t delivering material to it.
When I checked my population before logging out last night Rat Portage had about 150k residents and 240k tourists. Gah! No wonder the streets are gridlocked! I’m thinking about plopping a couple more tourist attractions or a casino to make sure I’m taking their money while they’re here.
My city nearly spiraled into disaster last night. I had 27 fires in one day, and because of the traffic my trucks could not get to most of them. Those building had to be 'dozed. But because of the traffic, contructions crews couldn’t get to the sites so they weren’t being rebuilt right away. My income dropped to -8,000 simoleans an hour at one point with taxes already at 12%, and I was only two hours from going bankrupt. I turned off the grade school and the high school and the library and some timely coal deliveries kept me solvent. Finally the fires slowed down and things got rebuilt and my finances are in better shape now; I was able to open the schools and lower taxes again.
I’ll be shutting down my original water station soon since the ground has all but dried up under it, and it looks like my coal supply is dwindling, so I really need to decide what to do with my economy next.
Oh, and I did end up plopping another train station, right between my first one and my rail port. The tracks coming into my city are now almost as busy as the highway.
I really can’t figure out what’s attracting all those tourists. I have very little shopping and only one medium level attraction. But I’m starting to seriously think about a tourism/gambling future now. I wonder when the casinos will be fixed…
Skammer, can you get back in to Riverside? We could use some help building the arcology. You can make TVs now, too, since I plopped the consumer electronics division.
I think I might go for NFS for my free game. I kinda like racing games (I play a lot of Mario Kart :)) and this one seems to have gotten a lot of good reviews when it came out.
Rat Portage was just attacked by a giant lizard which destroyed many residential and commercial buildings as well as the hospital, fire station, library, grade school, large fire station, and city hall. That’s gonna hurt.
