Simcity 5 Doper region organizing thread

Please send an invite to me!

The servers are down and the patch is underway. According to some reports, this is A big patch but not THE big patch, so we could see even more improvements in the future.

I’ll set up a new region tonight, when the servers are back up. Thus far, the following Dopers have reserved slots:

TerminusEst920
caleknight [Johnny Bravo]
Keeene [Skammer]
iDavidW95
sandra_nz
Zaparthes [Knorf]
President_Gentle

That makes seven, which means we could all fit into Reflection Atoll; this is the only available region with more than five interconnected cities. We might need more slots, though, if the rollback bug hasn’t been completely fixed. We could go to Horizon Archipelago (11 cities in 3 clusters) or another of the 16-city regions.

OK, mayors, the region of Patch Adams is now open for business. This is the 16-city Discovery Delta region, which was our first region of Ceciltopia. I even selected the same site for myself, Magnolia Wetlands. I’m sending out the first batch of invitations now.

Loggin’ on ain’t workin’ for me.

I’ll keep trying periodically, but this shit is already old.

Yep, I can’t connect either.

The city of White Bay is underway. I’ve decided to go the Education route this time; I have the grade school and high school built and enough money for the community college; just waiting on my population to catch up now.

Magnolia Terminus is up and running. I’ve already built a gambling hall, which is making me a reasonable number of simoleons. The casino advisor is now bitching about not having enough visitors, so I’ll have to see about getting a transportation department established soon.

Managed to get in and play for a bit.

Mitchell Landing, a robust oil town. Oil, you say? Yes, oil. And lots of it. Oil money paid for a Dep’t of Education.

In other news, this game seems as bugged as ever.

This 30 second Youtube video shows what you should know about the patch.

Seemed to be working fine when I played it last night (UK time). Having a bit of a tricky time with my city as the ore is upwind on the map, so some of my residential/commercial areas are a bit sickly.

I notice the rubbish trucks still spend 70% of their time driving up and down random streets, ignoring trash. sigh

And the population counter still doesn’t work right, again I got the ‘reduce unemployment’ warning from my city hall when the population was showing unfilled jobs at all wealth levels.

I’ve got a wealthy college town going on in White River, with plenty of high-tech industry and a community college and new university. I’ve got a regional bus station, ferry and train to import students from all you other cities so start sending 'em over.

Still saving up for my first research project at the university - does anyone have a request for any particular great work to be unlocked?

My casinos would appreciate more visitors, so I’d vote for the International Airport.

I don’t have a lot of space in Magnolia Terminus, so I’ve spent a lot of time puzzling out how to fit everything I need. I’ve got the train station and bus terminal, and allotted places for the ferry and airport. I’m ready to build the Gambling HQ and plop my first real casino, though I’m leery of doing so based on previous experience.

I don’t think the Int’l Airport requires a specific University project, does it?

I was thinking about either the project that lets us build solar arrays, or the one that allows advanced nuclear reactors. So city upgrades instead of great works.

Thus far, the region has unlocked the arcology and the solar farm. Does a municipal airport unlock the Intl Airport? If that’s the case, I’ll unlock the latter in due course.

In terms of university projects, I’d like to see some advanced windmills for my town. But if you need something else, feel free to research that instead.

I actually built the solar farm, but it doesn’t have enough workers to make it a reliable source of power, so I’m still using my coal plants.

I’m wondering if region play is working correctly, though. Does it show the solar farm as unlocked for you, or built? I’m seeing everyone else’s cities showing 1k-10k population, as if everyone had just started. Terminus, last night I could see that you were online and playing, but in the region view it said you had played 12 hours ago.

Anyway, I’m “Mayor Malfrutus” in Fitzroy, for those in the Patch Adams region.

If you’re talking about the in-game friends list, then that’s the least reliable indicator. I’ve got someone listed there who is supposedly still playing in Ceciltopia; to my knowledge, no one has been in there for a month.

Even though we’ve got 16 cities in the region, each great work only affects the local cluster of 4. Any city from outside the cluster can’t even see the great work, let alone contribute to it or benefit from it.

I’m researching the Concentrated Solar Array right now - that will be handy for anyone who wants to convert to solar power, which I may do at some point.

But right now - AARGH - my recycling plant is broken. It collects and processes materials, but it won’t deliver them. I’ve planted and re-planted delivery garages but they are empty, with no delivery trucks to be seen :frowning: So my storage gets full and the plant stops working.

Okay, by turning it off and on a couple of times I got it working.

I’m happy to report that casinos are now profitable. Tourism in general is still pretty borked, however. Plop any tourist attraction or casino and most of your commercial converts to hotels, too many for all of them to be profitable. Some of them will fail and you bulldoze them, only to have the site rebuild the selfsame hotel that failed in the first place. Meantime your residents will bitch about not being able to find any shopping, since all the commercial is given over to hotels.

I have to say that the traffic situation is much better now. It’s still heavy, but at least it moves.

My university has completed the research on the concentrated solar array and the vertical wind turbines, and is now working on second generation nuclear power. I’ve also started manufacturing and exporting processors; so when we’re ready to build the arcology or whatever I’ll be ready to help out.
