Simply Irreplaceable - Robert Palmer Has Died

Singer Robert Palmer Dies at 54

He had a heart attack in Paris.

With the series of videos that began with “Addicted to Love” and continued through “Simply Irresistable” he created one of the most instantly recognizable and lasting visual paradigms of the 80s, that’s pretty unarguable. But more imporantly, I think, was his career as a unique artist long before and far beyond what was known to those whose only association of him was with his kitschy blank-faced dancing models. “Bad Case of Loving You” “Sneaking Sally Through the Alley” his work with The Powerstation, pop, rock, “heavy nova.” Everything he set his voice to was stamped with the Palmer imprimatur which can be summed up in one simple word: smooth.

RIP, Robert, and thanks.

Wow. Too early. Great talent. From the Rod Stewart school of “his voice is way better than most of his song choices”. But he did have some great songs, too, from his early “Doctor, doctor gimme the news, I got bad case of lovin’ you” era through Addicted to Love and the rest.

Still, “Simply Irresistable” does have one of the greatest lines in rock: “She’s so fine, there’s no telling where the money went”

I will miss him.
