Simpsons 11/6 - Treehouse of Horror XVI

Well, I liked the first segment. Especially the Herbie Hancock “Rockit” reference and when Bart sliced Homer in half without hesitation.

I liked the last one… possibly because the plot was lifted from a classic ‘buffy’ episode pretty much.

I remember that Buffy episode. I wonder if there wasn’t an earlier story somewhere with that theme. It seems pretty obvious but I can’t think of anything other than Buffy and now this THoH.

I saw part of the robot skit, left the room, and came back for the above mentioned Buffy Holloween plot skit. I get that it is suppose to be funny to have a sucky ending, but come on!

Someone out there must have done a “people become their costumes on Halloween” story before 1997.

The ToH plots are always lifted.

I liked the Most Dangerous Game bit, personally. The robot one was kind of meh, and the costume one was…very meh. Although the Skinner as GI Joe joke was amusing.

You are so banned. :stuck_out_tongue:

I liked it. Great episode. Reminds of how much better the Simpsons is than 99% of non-public television.

I also got a kick out of “The Most Dangerous Game.”

“What do you think his motives are?”
“I’d say ulterior.”

Overall, though the show was pretty mediocre. I have found this to be true any time Kang & Kodos get nothing more than cameo at the end.

…Except for the couple of minutes at the beginning, which were fairly amusing.

In 1964, The Twilight Zone did an episode where greedy relative’s faces changed into the Mardis Gras masks they were wearing. I’d imagine the story idea has been done before then as well.

Man, how sad is it that I can’t even remember what the middle episode was? I mean, I missed the very beginning of it cause I was in the kitchen, but I’m sure I caught the rest, but can’t for the life of me recall what it was about.

“Survival of the Fattest” - Mr. Burns hunts down all the male characters (except Smithers). Homer survives, of course.

The B.I. segment was okay. The 2nd one was pointless and predictable. The 3rd one just sucked big time.

(All together now…)
“Worst THoH ever!”

I really enjoyed the beginning with Kodos and Kang talking about baseball… mostly because I feel the same way. :wink: The rest was so-so for me.

I’m hoping that this level of quality will continue. So that I can finally convince the friends I hang out with on Sundays to jettison The Simpsons in favor of Veronica Mars.

Sorry, I thought they were all pretty good. I guess that’s a minority opinion.

overall, a pretty Meh episode, the robot story was okay, got a couple smiles out of me, “SotF”, meh, predicatble, nothing special, “people becoming their costumes” ep had promise but the horribly excecuted ending, i.e. “we’re running out of ideas, lets have Maggie turn them all into pacifiers” was pathetic, throw in an out-of-nowhere “celebrity” appearance by a past-their-prime “celeb” (and a bloody sports figure to boot), well it’s one of the weakest THOH episode endings i’ve seen…

highlights in the third scenario;
Hans Moleman “But i wasn’t wearing a costume”
Nelson “I’m the lone ranger, not a racoon”
Dr. Hibbert’s rant on the fact that he was Dracula not Blacula

other enjoyable clips;
Kang and Kodos complaining about how boring baseball is (i agree with their assesments, but, Blernsball is a different story, only slightly less tedious), culminating with the destruction of reality (“i’ll just leave a note on it”)
Homer’s gleeful planning to cause his Robo-Son to self destruct by presenting it with a logical paradox
the Robo-Son having a waffle-iron built into his face

on a scale of 1-12 donuts, i’ll give it 6, an average, middle of the road ep, nothing special

Why don’t they ever show these on Halloween?

Fox shows the World Series then.

The wait didn’t spoil this one. Lamest. Treehouse of Horror. Ever.
