Simpsons 3/9

So the monkey’s uncle was the head of Tourism in Brazil, huh?

priceless

ABC is shelving away its Drew Careys (Drew Careies?) for either summer or fall. Whose Line and Drew are next to each other, so the same thing may be happening.

Aw, crud! This was supposed to go in the Whose Line thread! Corrected post follows…

(eating an on-screen Joe Millionaire ad) Mmm…promo. (spits) Ew, FOX!

I got a pretty big laugh from the ending.

“Now all the planes are back where they should be. Over poor people’s houses.”

Heehee.

The whole episode was hillarious, but the Fox News segment was the funniest thirty seconds of Simpsons this whole season.

Kent Brockman was great,

That was great.

There’s always one or two jokes in the Simpsons at which nobody laughs but me. Makes me feel so awkward. This week it was the Citizen Kane reference.

… 92% OF DEMOCRATS ARE GAY … JIMMY CARTER OLD, WRINKLED, USELESS …

Anybody else get a tear in their eye at the end? God Bless America!

Ok – 'splain, please.

When Quimby tells his mistress that he can finally hear her voice, she squeaks out a thank you. He asks if that it’s her real voice and then when she says yes, he replies, “Now I regret building you that opera house!”

I loved when Marge says someone should do CPR and Homer starts singing, “Bad Moon Rising.”

Speaking as a person whose apartment house is on the flight plan for small planes going into and out of Teterboro Airport, so close I sometimes see them out my front window, last night’s episode was something I identified with. And very funny.

The news ticker alone made the show worthwhile.

Was that Count Blah (from Greg the Bunny) at the Republican meeting?

Some of the jokes were patently recycled…well, ok, two come to mind:

  1. the “devil horns” over the democrat’s head were similar to Quimby’s horn-shaped-cowlicks in “Sideshow Bob Roberts.” (The network added flame effects there.)

  2. “Wow, he looks just like Walter Mondale!” “Yeah…looks like.” Already heard that with John Travolta in the Itchy & Scratchy Land episode.

The three eps that preceded this one were just not funny. Way below par for the Simpsons. I was starting to worry about sharks there. Thing that made this one funny was some nice, sharp political commentary. The previous episodes were so innocuous that they lost all their punch. Hope the Simpsons writers take the obvious lesson here – in comedy, it is less dangerous to risk offending people than it is to risk boring them.

I think it was a repeated character parody of Count Chocula, who they had used before in the “Republican Party Headquarters” gag bit (remember they thought the water cooler was their candidate for a minute) from a couple of seasons ago. I believe this first instance was prior to “Greg the Bunny”. They have reused the crazy texas oil baron a few times as well.

As far as the episode, it was a classic. Anytime they rip on Fox, you know it will be a good episode.

Gee, not one wanna-be CBG in the thread yet? Was there a convention this weekend or something?

CBG?

Comic Book Guy.
