An entertaining episode, as far as the current crop goes. The opening with the rampant advertising in cartoons (and golf) was amusing, and it was nice to see Plopper make another brief cameo. Some good lines (I was expecting a “don’t have a cow joke,” so I was surprised when it came at the very end rather than sooner), and the episode as a whole was somewhat reminicent of an earlier episode.
Even though there have been some inside jokes on this line before (like Homer meeting Dan Castenelleta at the Fox studios), I think it would be funnier if the voice on the animal tape had been Nancy Cartwright, and Bart responded “Who the hell is she?” But, then again, that’s just me. (Speaking of voices, the animators’ union reports that the voice actors are renegotiating again, and the future of The Simpsons is uncertain. If the series dies, I won’t be crying, and I’m sure a lot of other people won’t, either.)
“Son, let this be a lesson: never work hard and don’t form emotional attachments. Also, don’t be a cow.”
“I always knew Mary would marry. That’s why I named her Mary- we name all our children after what we think will happen to them. Isn’t that right, Stabbedinjail?”
“We’ll see who stabs who!”
I only saw the opening before leaving it to the DVR. The takeoff on the Bayeux Tapestry is one of the clever things they’ve done with the opening in a while.
Me too. They had a few weak seasons but the last 2 or 3 years have been solid.
One of the funniest parts for me was when Bart ran over the manure and the Pirates of the Carribean 3 DVDs came out. I usually don’t like the jokes that are that mean but that movie really was crap. One of the few movies I’ve ever seen that was so bad it actually made me angry I paid for it.
A coupe of minor issues here: Bart didn’t really act like Bart in this one, Lisa seems to have un-learned the whole tolerance lesson from Lisa the Vegetarian, and this is the second time in two years Bart has almost gotten married. That never happened to me as a ten-year-old - did it happen to everybody else?

That said, I laughed really hard at a couple of the jokes. I loved the parodies of vegetarians/environmental activists, Homer’s lesson to Bart, and the 4-H guy’s comment about having the kids use equipment they weren’t trained to use. Having been to a few weddings lately, I liked the wedding director, too.
I think this was like a lot of Simpsons episodes – spotty overall, but with some really nice lines. Ralph’s cow was a great one, especially since it was always understated.
I was disappointed that one of them wasn’t the “level 5 vegan” that Lisa was crushed out on a few seasons back. “I don’t eat anything that casts a shadow.”
