Simpsons 4/2/06

Sort of weak in spots (I didn’t quite get the whole anti-assisted suicide slant), but more than made up for it with the “Old Man Beats Meat” newspaper headline.

Sadly a John Lennon song AND a Charlie Chaplin reference couldn’t even put this episode over for me.

I hope the writing gets *a lot *better by 07/27/07.

Did anyone catch what Maggie said? Something about bald Mommy… I liked the bit during the credits with Grampa naming names.

Didn’t suck, nothing was really funny. The opening Couch scene was my only good laugh and my wife thought I was nuts. Just struck me as funny.

Jim

I laughed out loud twice:
The part where Homer got gored in the crotch with the bikebull and
The part with Ol’ Gill walking out of the drycleaners. Finally getting a lick of that brass ring, Gill is.

The 48 Minutes spoof was pretty funny too.

I wouldn’t call it anti-assisted suicide, since they included lines like Marge’s “God wants us to die naturally, of old age, after years of pain and decreased mobility.” the DiePod was very funny, as was the whole nod to Soylent Green with Abe wanting to watch cops beat hippies set to the music of Glenn Miller.

The problem with this episode, like many of them in recent years, was that the ‘real’ plot took a long time to get started, and then didn’t cohere. But Lenny’s line “I’ve got 'Down’s Syndrome!” was killer.

“Bald Mommy will surely fail,” I think. And “Joseph Stalin!” got a pretty big laugh from me.

Agreed. Very disjointed episode.

Though I did enjoy the Diepod.

Did any one else’s news break spoil the breaking news? Fox 5 in DC sure did.

Some funny moments in an odd episode. I particularly liked the diePod, Homer getting gored & the newspaper headline.

WNYW, Fox 5 New York did. But then again, anyone who reads the headlines online knows it already.

The TiVo couch gag was a reuse, but the chalkboard gag is, to me, the funniest in the show’s history. And I did like Rob Reiner’s promotional video.

So did the Fox in Columbus. Plus they spoiled the best joke in the episode by showing it in a preview (Homer getting it in hte nads).

We had 2 EAS thunderstorm warnings during the show.
homer scream

What was it? I missed it.

The picture was upside down and Bart was writing “I will not flip the classroom upside down.”

Just once I would like an entire episode focused on the life of Ol’ Gil. I think he’s my favorite fringe character of all time.

“MY HOT PLATE! oohh”

The sad, drooling bull made me sad though. There are a handful of Simpsons episodes that have actually made me cry. Came close with that bull, but I blame it on “lady hormones”.

I had to TiVo tonights episode. I pulled up the now playing list and deleted (permanently) old stuff that had worn out it’s welcome. I started the Simpsons, and with remote still in hand, looked on in horror as I thought I had deleted the episode. Then I remembered the “recently deleted folder”, then I suspected a gag. You got me.

Yes, the ruining of the big news happened in Columbus. Thankfully I had already guessed the “news”.

Wow, assisted suicide/euthanasia references in The Simpsons and The Sopranos on the same night. Whoda thunkit?

Forgot to mention, I got very distracted through the entire first act as I noticed, then watched for, they way the delicately avoided using the name “NFL”.

It was always “profesisonal football” or “the league”.

Wasn’t there already a pro team there? Flanders took Homer when they became buddies.

Also, did anyone else think they were going to make a reference to the Cubs fan who became a pariah after catching that foul ball? His name was even BARTMAN!

I liked Rob covering Carl’s star. And Rob Lowe’s as well!

Funny stuff. Decent episode. Not great, but not offensively bad. The ending was lame, but that is something they seem to enjoy.

I liked it. I like it when “The Simpsons” isn’t afraid to be a cartoon.

I especially enjoyed:

“I’ve got Melt Fever!”

“I’ve got Downs Syndrome!”
