A rather disappointing opener for #21. I liked the Everyman idea and some of the jokes involving this were pretty clever, but it was surprising that given as Hollywood has become more insane over the years and an actual current Hollywood darling co-wrote and guested, the episode pales in comparison to “Radioactive Man” when it comes to commenting on Hollywood going out of control. There were a few amusing bits- mostly all of which involved Comic Book Guy (I enjoyed Bart getting him angry by asking dumb questions about Spider-Man), but overall the episode as a whole fell rather flat.
I think having Seth Rogen as the personal trainer was something of an inside joke, because Rogen used to be out of shape but got fit to play the Green Hornet.
Anyone know if they got permission to use the Marvel and DC characters? My mouth dropped when he actually copied Iron Man, then Plastic Man.
I was annoyed they showed the cliche of kids reading comic. I have worked a comic book store. That is rare. Plus Everyman is so for adults.
It’s a pity they moved the story to Hollywood.
What I can’t figure out is…after getting the right to cast Everyman himself, why didn’t Comic Book Guy cast…himself? (Because, of course, Homer had to do it, because he’s a Simpson…but GBG would have made more sense…Everyman was so clearly a self-insert.)
Yep, this is what would have made sense to me. Instead, they made a Homer-centric episode concocted of ingredients we’ve seen on the show many times before. It had a few laughs, but it was definitely not one of their more cleverly plotted episodes.
During the depiction of the Everyman comic book, I liked it when Everyman acquired the powers of Plastic Man and stretched his leg, but didn’t trip the fleeing bank robber, and instead turned his foot into a cage for him.
Unfortunately, after the first act, this one lost its funny.
There have been a couple of times- I remember Homer swearing a lot in his car, Homer referring to something as “bullshit,” and Marge telling him to “shit or get off the pot” in the “Behind the Laughter” episode.
Mr. Burns: Simpson!
Homer: Yes Mr. Burns!
Mr. Burns: I’m opening a new power plant in the Antarctic. <mumbles>[sub]that runs on penguin corpses[/sub]</mumbles> I want you to supervise it. You and your family are going to the South Pole.
Homer: DOH!
