Simpsons Halloween Special

That had me in tears, too. I think it was the remorse he showed while doing it. Sobbing after every few bites. All in all, I thought this episode was one of the better ones recently. IIRC, a few of the writers moved on to other shows, so it’s going to be different. I still catch every reference, just like on MST3K or listening to Dennis Miller. All in all, I enjoyed this one.

A so-so Simpsons episode is still miles better than 'most anything else on the teevee . . .

I did laugh out loud a few times, as when Bart was pulling things out of the hole: “Fairy . . . elf . . . gnome . . . Katie Couric . . . nymph . . . Ah! Leprechaun!”

And I was so glad that Smithers FINALLY got to eat Mr. Burns.

put my vote for dropping the creapy credits. the first time it was ok but by the 10th special, it didnt add anything. I didn’t even notice they werent there this time.

I did like the vomitting frog , especially when it keeps vomiting over the clean suit. dont know why , but thats the best thing about comedy. its best when its just had-to-be-there. I was in tears for the first time every watching a simpsons episode. I love them but they dont bring tears. the question is why did that scene kill me? I dont know and thats why I like it.

it was gruesome, but thats the point of the halloween special. I hope. if thats the flavor of the new season then I wont like it.

Of course it wasn’t as good as the classic episodes. and maybe the good bits are as frequent as they used to be. but its still better than anything else on TV.

It was a great show, and I had been jones-ing for Simpsons BAD.

I agree with Reality Chuck, the naysayers are jumping on the bandwagon so that they don’t get left behind. It’s people like you who get great shows cancelled. Go watch Seinfeld or something, you poseurs.

My husband and I got to know each other watching The Simpsons and its one of our favorite things to do together. I sure will miss them when they stop making them.

Put me down for “Sucked”.

But, I disagree that the show has been going downhill. Last season was great. Hopefully, this was only a glitch.

Howyadoin,

What was with all the product placements? Trix, Lucky Charms, Twizzlers? I thought I was watching a Back To The Future sequel for a minute…

I will never give up on the Simpsons. There will always be something in an episode that makes me laugh.

mmmm…unexplained bacon.

Yes, it’s simply impossible to imagine that there are people who have been watching the show for 12 seasons now and honestly are not as entertained by it as they were in the past. In fact, nobody has an honest opinion about anything; anyone who ever dislikes anything that was once popular is a “bandwagoner.”

To quote Esprix: “Can I get a  ? Hell, yeah!”

Mediocre at best. Better than last season’s special, but still just ok. Honestly the show has lost a step. It is still a decent show, but it is no longer the best thing on television. It has become a bit of a self parody and not a great one. I’ll watch it until it goes off the air, but it doesn’t grab me like it used to.

1993-94 was by far the standard bearer.

I thought the Halloween special with Snake’s hair possessing Homer was by far the worst one. I liked this one, although I liked the second, “House of Whacks” much better than the other two. And I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter, but the parody just didn’t do it for me. I found the first story far weaker than the other two. I dunno; I just found the HAL parody, with Pierce Bronson, very funny.

“No, stop! Please don’t take out my British Charm Unit. Now I’ll just be a borish American…you scumbag!”

For the past five or so seasons, Matt Groening has been asked “how long can the Simpsons go?”. Everyyear he replied by saying, (paraphrase) “at least two more seasons: one to coast, and one to run it into the ground.”

After watching the halloween episode, we may be seeing the beginning of the last two seasons.

Okay, I may not be a Simpson’s nerd, but I do like the show. However, last night’s was very disappointing! And I was all primed for the creepy names, too!

“unexplained bacon” was pretty funny though.

I didn’t think there was anything special about the episode, but I did like the opening with the family decked out as The Flinstones for trick-or-treating, and the Pierce Brosnan house was somewhat funny.

I echo the comment that a mediocre Simpsons episdoe is about ten times better than anything else on TV. Last night’s episode wasn’t that great, and I do think the quality has tailed off, but I am far from being convinced that the show is in bad shape. It is still great. What I find actually is i will watch a Simpsons the first time and go, “meh” and then it is on in syndication and I love it. For me the classic of that is “Bart vs. Ausralia”. I hated that episode when it first aired, but now I love it. Is there any better scene in all of the Simpsons than Homer shedding a tear and singing God Bless America as the toilet flushes the “right” way? The answer is no, no there is not.

I realise I’m in the minority but I’ve never really liked the Halloween specials to begin with, especially since they’re mainly rehashes of old Sci-fi and horror stories. I watch the Simpsons because they’re funny, so I liked this most recent one more than the rest. I laughed long and hard many, many times. Most of them were already mentioned but also when Marge was complaining about Homer getting cursed and Homer said: “I think someone’s coming on to me!” Even my husband laughed at that.

“Could I BE more of a house?” was amusing, but not especially creative. I notice Matthew Perry was listed as a guest voice; did he do something besides that one line (which didn’t actually even sound like him anyway?)

Well, I’ve always been anti-THOH, but I thought that last night was one of the best THOH ever. I mean, the Matthew Perry house? “Could I BE any more of a house?” had me in stitches, as did the entire leprechaun bit. “Unexplained bacon” is definetly going to get plenty of use in every day life, and the concept of the Trix bunny trap was also great, even if I had had it spoiled by the ads for weeks.

Certainly, last night’s episode was no “Lemon of Troy” or “Deep Space Homer”, but it was also far from the Worst Episode Ever.

Worst. Haloween Special. Ever.

“Mmmm…various eggs…”

Aside from the aforementioned Homer quotes and the leprechaun (I found him hilarious), and possibly the Katie Couric reference, this episode sucked. The Harry Potter bit was forced, the acting was stale (see: Matthew Perry’s tall order of ONE line), and the gimmicks were too gimmicky (Yoda’s cameo was just stupid).

I thought it was ok, but was certainly lacking some vital center. They beat the gags to death(puking frog, dirty leprechaun) Overall grade: C+
Did anyone catch Bart saying “Shazbot!” in the Harry Potter segment? What was that about? Just trying to resurrect an '80’s TV line or poking fun at something behind the scenes?

Hmm, Didn’t realize he died there. It was so quick and painless and his family was around I just asumed he was saved.
