Simpson's Location

In a recent episode of the Simpson’s, George Bush Sr. moved in across the street. The reason they gave for moving to Springfield was to get back to regual folk. So they found the county(?) with the lowest voter turn out.

Now, does this mean that if we find out the county with the lowest voter turn out during the Bush election, that we’ve finally found out where they live? Or am I reading too much into this?

It’s just a running joke to try to determine where Springfield is. Most of the geographical references are obscured, and there’s a reason for that. IMHO it takes a lot of the fun out of it when people start making lists of ways to figure out what state Springfield is in.

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!1

The lowest voter thing was a joke.

Hell, no you’re not reading too much into it!! I think you’re onto something!

Keep up the research. Everybody knows that the first person to absolutely prove which state the Simpsons’ Soringfield is in wins a golden Bart Garden Gnome worth $1,000,000.00

Listen not to these infidels!!

Well, its safe to say that there probably is no Springfield that has a gorge, river and somehow is next to the ocean when convenient. You might be able to narrow it down by noting that KBBL is the radio station in Springfield and all radio stations w/ the call letters starting w/ K are west of the Mississippi or something.

Well, the way I heard it, the clues that indicate Springfield’s location are contradictory… sometimes it’s near an ocean, sometimes it’s in the middle of the country, sometimes it’s in a very, very hot area of the country, sometimes it’s freezing cold…

The only solid clue we have to its location is that it is now five miles south of where it originally was…

perhaps if we researched the history of Hans Sprungfeld we might find the answer.

THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT HE WAS “HANS SPRUNGFELD”, you heretic!!! You should be stoned to death!!

His name is “Jebediah Obadiah Zachariah Jedediah Springfield”, dammit!!!

Anyway, if you really want to ferret out the town’s location, feel free to go through the Simpson’s Archive for info.

A couple of years ago, Fox had a contest where you could win the Simpsons house. They had some house in a Nevada suburb that was decorated like the Simpsons house. The winner, I believe, was a grandmother who didn’t like the show and only entered it because her grandkids talked her into it. How this puts them close to the ocean, I don’t know (maybe California has finally fallen into the sea!), but that’s where the house is.

Well then give me my broom and push me off the cliff!
SIC SEMPER MIS!!!

I love the line that Mayor Quimby had in this episode, “Can’t we have one meeting that doesn’t end with us digging up a corpse?”

As far as where Springfield is located, the easiest thing to do is find the Springfield with a nuclear plant.

the Springfield in the Simpsons is a fictional city. So you won’t be able to find a real Springfield in the real world that’s exactly like the one on the TV show. Trust me.

Trying to figure out where the fictional Simpsons’ Springfield is located in the fictional Simpsons’ USA, however, is a puzzle worth spending time on.

by the by, SouprChckn, the radio station call letter system is not so easy as all that.

I figured out by looking at maps, small clues and stuff in the show that the simpsons are in:
a) A city on the coast
b) West of the Mississippi
c) In a area w/ mountains
d) Where it snows
e) 30 mi from the Capitol city
f) a VERY long drive to NYC
g) a city w/ heavy train freight traffic

Through these clues and a few other things I narrowed it down to two small towns in Washington state, or a place California if you ignored a couple hints (Matt Groening lived in California for a time doing “Life in Hell”).
If you ignore almost ALL of the clues, there is a Springfield in KY w/ a town named Shelbyville nearby.

I’m not sure how accurate this story is. Maybe it’s urban/TV legend. There are more towns named Springfield in the USA than any other city or town name. Something like 23 states have a Springfield. As I understand it, they picked the name that was most common, so no one would “really know” what state they are in. My guess is they will never say what state they live in, because they’ve never picked one. It’s not like they are holding something back for a series ending finale.
Although you never know…

Administrators, I DEMAND that White Lightning be banned from this message board! Such words are obviously those of a troll, and he must be punished by catapult!!!

(Just kiddin’, WL…)

Take ‘Springfield Shelbyville’ and rearrange the letters and what do you get? A very revealing statement in which all we have to do is fill in the blank.

‘Help Elvis bed fly girls in -----’

once we can answer that I think we’ll know!

Yeah, I read that column before. I assumed that the radio station of KBBL didn’t exist in the early 1900s. I guess its always possible though.

An article in the State Journal Register (Springfield, Illinois) recently talked about a man who had this great idea. You see, our city is somewhat of a tourist attraction now, what with the Abraham Lincoln sites and all. And when they finally build the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, it’s going to be an even bigger tourist attraction. So this guy figures, hell, since tourists are coming here anyway, let’s give them another reason: the Simpsons house!

Yup, some guy thinks the city ought to build a replica of the Simpsons house to lure even more tourists here.

And FTR, voter turnout in Sangamon county is pretty consistent with the national average, we have no gorge and no river (there’s one about a dozen miles to the north), we’re nowhere near the ocean or mountains, there IS a Shelbyville nearby, but we’re not 30 miles from Capital City. We ARE the capital city!

In the episode where it parodied Behind the Music (called Behind the Laughter) they reveal they live in Kentucky.

Other than that, they put Springfield wherever they feel it’s conveinent: the desert, near the ocean, near rocky mountains, etc.

I might also mention that it appears to be in Hawaii. You remember the episode where Chief Wiggum is on the radio, describing his location? “The sun is directly overhead right…now!” – or something like that? The only place in which the sun can be directly overhead is the tropical zone, and Hawaii is the only state in the tropics.
