Simpsons Season 6 on DVD - Please say This isn't the box

Well I am excited about season 6 on DVD, since it is a very good season. But why oh why are they changing the design from the previous seasons??

Check it out here.

Relax. It comes with a form you can mail in to get a slipcase that matches all the other box sets.

Whooo-hooo!!!

Seasons 6-10 will be in the shape of each Simpsons’ head, but, as noted, you’ll be able to order a regular box.

You realize, of course, they are doing this because they know full well that everything after season 8 sucks ass, and most people won’t be buying them. So they came up with this cockamamie “heads” idea, counting on all the hopelessly anal people to buy the complete set, just for the heads. It’s stupid, the plastic looks ridiculous and cheap, and they’re only offering the “original” box style because they already printed up a whole bunch before switching the design at the last minute. Oh, and I’ll bet it ain’t free, either…at the very, very least, you’ll have to pay for shipping.

Thankfully, my VHS tapes from the original broadcast are still in excellent shape.

That’s brilliant. That’ll sell what, six extra copies? That money may just keep the studio afloat.

Why does it look so sad?

I dunno; they continue to watch them, so I’m sure they’ll keep buying them.

He doesn’t look sad to me. He looks confused, perhaps (which Homer often is), or perhaps in awe. Maybe he’s staring at a donut.

One website pointed out an error on the form with the phone number you call to get the old-style box. The number starts with 1-888, not 1-800 as the form says.

I don’t mind the new box style, but since I’m a Simpsons fan and a completist, I’ll probably be ordering the old-style box.

What?! Nonsense. Both season 9 and the first part of season 11 were awesome. After that, everything sucks ass, though.

Woo Hoo! Nutty box notwithstanding, I’m off to CostCo to pick up my copy now…

I for one welcome the nutty Homer head box overlords.

Ooo…a Head Box. Chock full of…heady goodness.

Season 6 was the second best of them all. I’ve bought seasons 1-5 on the day of their release, and have anxiously been awaiting this release. I’ve always laughed at people who refused to buy Warner Bros DVD’s because of those cardboard snap cases they came in (it was especially funny when The Matrix came out on DVD, and everyone just ASSUMED that this is when WB would be making the switch…but they waited until Matrix Reloaded to do that, rest assuring that anybody who bought the trilogy would have them look funny on their shelves) but this has got to be the ugliest box I’ve ever seen, and no way in hell is it coming into my DVD collection. It isn’t just the outside…once you open the box, you have to open yet ANOTHER case to get to the DVD’s…it looks even worse than the Seinfeld DVD’s)

The news about getting the traditional box is good news though…I’m going to wait and see how things pan out first. This still doesn’t mean I’m going to keep buying past season 9 though (everything past the Pinchy episode, which was about the 3rd episode in season 10, was crap)

Got my copy of Season 6, and I didn’t get an insert with the phone number for the original box. And while the new box is neat looking, but it’s very cheap feeling and coming apart already. Grrrrrr…

I have the insert and it just gives an 800 number. Email me privately if you want the number.

Yes, because God knows you wouldn’t want to share something like that with the public at large.

You can also print out a form at the official website, simpsonsbox.com, which is as funny as the insert.

These are so darn funny in the classic Simpsons style, I have to type them out so future civilizations can enjoy the funny:

Form inside package:
For all those that fear change…
For all those anal retentive nerds who like their DVD boxes to line up perfectly on the shelf…
For all those who dislike storing their digital media inside a hollowed-out human head, have we got a deal for you:

for a very derivative, old-style, just-like before box with almost nothing new or creative to annoy or terrify you. Enjoy!
(The form features an incorrect, 1-800 number in numbers. I’ve edited it to the correct 1-888 heading, and typed the numbers out in word form for those interested so search engines and stuff don’t pick the number up.)

D’oh! Apparently, the website that said 1-888 is the correct number goofed. One-eighthundred-two two three-two three six nine is the proper number to call for a non Homer-shaped box.
