Simpsons Throwaways and Tossoffs

The shirt that’s seen in the Simpsons garage sale ep (the ep where GHWB moves in across the street) is the “Assahola” version.

Morningwood = Morning Wood. If you’re a guy, think about it and perhaps you’ll figure it out. Or take a nap, then you’re almost sure to get it.

Haha, get it. ha.

In the Who episode, when Homer has the wall built separating Old Springfield from New Springfield the angel skeleton that advertised a mall was part of the wall.

I also love the Apu and Manjula wedding.

Bart: I wish I had an elephant.

Lisa: (Deadpan) You did. You named him (what was it, Scrappy?) and you loved him very much.

Bart: Oh yeah.

Stampy.

Stampy.

That’s what I thought…The Ayotollah is crossed out like in a no smoking sign, so I figured it had to have been a protest shirt from that age.

Warden points to a prisoner’s painting of a unicorn in space and asks, “What is it breathing?!?!”

“Air,” replies Homer.

“There’s no air in space,” chides the Warden.

Homer: “There’s an Air n’ Space museum.”

Man, am I the only one who actually does the frame-by-frame to catch stuff?

In the episode where Krusty gets busted as a tax cheat, when Bart and Krusty are sitting on the curb and a bus drives by, the sign on the bus says “You could be watching Must See TV right now.”

In almost every episode where they pan from one floor to another in the Simpson’s house, there is something between the floors. One episode it’s gold and jewels, another its a bunch of bugs (as in microphone bugs) from the FBI, CIA, and I think Fox.

I’m sure I’ll think of some more.

Speaking of frame-by-frame –
Don’t forget Homer’s revenge list:
[ul]
Bill of Rights

Grandpa

Fat Free lard

Gravity

Emmys

Darwin

H2Whoa!

Billy Crystal

God

Soloflex

The Boy

Stern Lecture Plumbing

ECONO Stool[/ul]

Or Kent Brockman’s list of gay people who

are all various staffers associated with the show

OK, all good posts…but in my opinion…this is one of the all-time favs. (note it may not be word for word). Let me set the scene
It’s the X-files episodes at the very end where the whole town is awaiting the alien (who is actually Mr. Burns). He pops out of the woods and…

Willie (in thick scottish accent): Ahhhhggg…it’s an alien…KILL IT…KILL IT!!!
Lisa: No wait, it’s not an alien, it’s Mr. Burns
Willie: Awwwwyee…its Mr. Burns…KILL IT…KILL IT!!!
hahah…just thinking about it…LMAO!!!
there she is

I love the “minor details” that you have to watch closely for.

Example: The other night they showed the episode where Marge and Homer were trying to get the excitement back in their marriage. They were trying to have sex in the windmill in a miniature golf course.
Of course they ended up running from police all over town, naked. But what I noticed was the cops found Homer’s underwear and had a police dog sniff it…the police dog ran away from the offending underwear.
Later in the show, they held up a newspaper. The headline was about Marge and Homer’s naked adventure. But the other article on the front page had a headline that read “Police Dog Clings to Life.”

In keeping with the newspaper theme…during the “Little Miss Sprigfield” episode Lisa makes a speech at a college football game about how much needed funds get wasted for big sports programs. A group of nerds charges the field. Later Lisa is stripped of her crown. Cut to a newspaper with Lisa being stripped of her crown under a huge headline. Below that is a small article headlined “Nerds pummeled in football melee.”

From the freeze-frame category: Homer’s “to-do” list. I forget most of it, but there are about five items. One of them is “See Stevie Nicks naked” and is checked multiple times!

In one episode, Lisa is complaining about the shoddy quality of goods and Homer laments with her about the Bible he bought:

[Homer]

Look at this Bible, it cost me thirty-five dollars … talk about a preachy book!

Sheesh … and there’s this one guy in the back that can’t do anything wrong!

[/Homer]

Everytime Homer is on the news, they have a “file photo” of him. Its always some ridiculously amusing or embarassing photo. Like him smoking 100 cigarettes or some such.

I also enjoy the subtle and sometimes not so subtle drug references.

In one episode, Marge asks, “What are these zig-zags?” where she gets no response.

For those that don’t know, Zig-zags are a brand of cigarette rolling papers that are commonly bought to roll marijuana joints.

The episode which just aired on Sunday, with Canary M. Burns. Mr. Burns shows a flow-chart of all of the power in the company. The inanimate carbon rod ranks over Homer.

“…talk about a preachy book! Everyones a sinner! Well, except this one guy points at book.”

Isn’t marijuana joint redundant?

Oh, by the way, the 1st and 2nd seasons on DVD are definitely a must. If you get bored with the episodes (Shame on you!), then you can watch them again with commentary turned on. It’s fun to listen to the guys talk about how the show’s developed over the years. Also check out The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family, it was published a few years ago, so it only goes to season 8, but it’s still pretty interesting. A synopsis of each episode, along with quotes, and interesting tidbits about the show. Just my $.02.

You reminded me of the episode where the Flanders’ house is destroyed, and in the emergency shelter, Rod (or Tod) walks up to his parents and says of the clothing he has been given, “Look, Daddy, I’m a SURFER!”

A Butthole Surfer, in fact, but the phrase is obscured.

I love the one where Apu & Homer go to India. They are walking into the airport where an ‘Up With People’ type group are singing something goofy like “If You’re Happy and You Know it,” when some Hare Krishnas walk by and say, “Oh, great. Christians.”

There was a sign on the school that said " Parent-Teacher Night: Let’s share the blame."
