Not sure. Have you checked to see if the driver that came with the card is the newest one avaliable?
Hubby did all that, so I’m not too sure.
It seems like he might have…I know it has the lastest DirectX9 because the game installed that.
Hmmmm… :dubious: I might have to raise someone up out of the bed at the house and check on that.
Thanks, Lute!
Ask him if he uninstalled the old drivers first. First I’d make sure I’m using the latest drivers from the company’s website. If that doesn’t work, I’d uninstall all video drivers and then after reboot reinstall and see if that fixes it. Then you might see if anyone on TheSims2.com forum has any solution.
I know he uninstalled the old drivers because he fussed at me for powering off the computer before he had a chance to and had to wait for it to come back up.
I was just too excited.
It’s a pretty hopped-up card. He’s thinking maybe the motherboard’s processor can’t handle it, but I really hope it’s the drivers.
I don’t want to have to exchange it again.
It ran so smooth at first.
I’m guessing this means it’s hooked into the power supply. How’s your wattage there? Is your CPU from AMD or Intel?
Today’s the day! I’m finally getting the Sims 2, a week after all of you lucky bastards. My husband called me a short while ago to tell me that he found what apparently was the last one in town. Oh, and then he said he “may or may not have” bought it. He bought it, if he knows what’s good for him and the bonsai tree I bought him last week for his birthday.
Need I say that today is the: Best. Birthday. Ever!
A word of warning:
I’ve really just been focusing on one Sim family, making them as successful as I can get them, which has been working pretty well for me. SimWife is the Popularity Aspiring one, and stays home all day making friends. One of her big aspirations was to become best friends with Brandi Broke, so I kept inviting her over and chatting with her, etc, trying to drive up that relationship. Hugs usually have a pretty nice impact, so I had SimWife give her a nice, friendly hug, but it didn’t push the relationship to the best friends level. This after a few days of talking, chatting, playing game after game of Red Hands. So I tried a nice, friendly “peck”.
Yeah, not only are they friends, but apparently they have a crush on each other now, so Brandi isn’t allowed over anymore. Apparently they were primed to fall in love with each other, and just waiting for me to offer up the first romantic (a peck??) interaction. And yet when I try to get Sims to fall in love, I struggle horrendously.
SHeesh.
Oh, I don’t know about that.
I meant it’s got a lot more to it than our old card (DVD decoder, screen savers, a thousand and five settings…that sort of stuff).
I think my hubby said something about it having it’s own power supply, but I’m not even sure that makes any sense. My husband was going on about it but the only thing I going on in my head was Put the FREAKING SIMS IN NOW!
We have an Intel from Gateway.
We just maxed out the RAM and installed the video card just to play the Sims 2.
BTW, I finally did the Head Master thing and got all three kids into Private School! I’m so proud.
I got a score of 45 for the food, 40 for the tour, and 1 for the shmooze (he left too quick) plus the 10 point bonus for the espresso.
He probably means it’s plugged into the main power supply like your disc drives instead of drawing from the motherboard. I’d check the output on the power supply just to be sure; you’d need 350~400 Watts. Higher if you had an AMD Athlon.
He just called and when asked said it’s plugged into the power supply and the motherboard.
He says it has a power plug on it just like a hard drive, whatever that means.
Yeah, it’s in an AGP slot on the motherboard but is powered from the main supply. I’m familiar with those, having recently returned one because I only had a 350W power supply in an AMD Athlon.
I imported one but it turned out the terrain was too high. I tried a lower terrain but for some reason it hardly any streets took and none of the lots.
Damn! Mortimer is rich! I wonder who I will marry Cassandra to. I am thinking she will be Dustin Broke’s second wife, right after the tragedy with Angela.
The Curious brothers have successfully raised the little green babies (from the alien abduction and consequent double male pregnancy) into teenagers. The boy, Adric, is a real troublemaker, and barely maintains a D average in school. Send him to do his homework, and he starts watching TV after mere milliseconds.
The nanny who came to stay with them was oddly affected by the alien babies. One day, she just stood in front of the empty crib, singing and muttering to herself, and refused to respond to any stimulation whatsoever. She did that until she collapsed, and never left the house again- just hung around starting fights and watching television. Everyone hated her, so she’s currently living in the corner bedroom with no door and no furniture waiting to die.
Alas, little Leela’s father, Pascal, was trapped on an upper level when someone left a toy at the foot of the stairs. He had an ambition to be saved from Death, and I tried to help him fulfill that ambition, but when the time came, he just died, so now his ghost wanders the house.
Leela has a very strange birth defect. Probably owing to her alien heritage, her face keeps disappearing, leaving only her hair perched atop her shirt. She wears costume makeup to conceal the problem.
Leela had a close call- she was repairing the computer when her uncle came running out of the shower and touched her, electrocuting her to death. I refused to save, 'cause I like her.
The Spectres have had bad luck. After the unfortunate death of her aunt, Ophelia proposed marriage to the just-eighteen Johnny Smith, and I was looking forward to seeing if any of their kids would inherit his green skin. Just after the baby was born (not green), she died of exhaustion, and Johnny was left to raise the kid alone. He died mysteriously in the graveyard while I was watching the toddler, and I still don’t know why. The toddler spent a few hours wandering the house, crying for his parents, before child protective services took him away.
The Smiths both have an aspiration to have ten kids? Well, so be it. Every morning Dad calls the adoption service, and I’ve added two more floors to the house to accomodate all the bedrooms. The place is like a party all the time.
I have no life whatsoever.
You could borrow mine real quick if I can just go home and play Sims 2.
I only got in about a half hour last night before quitting to try several things to get rid of the glitchies. I found where to update the driver last night but considering it was going to take about an hour and a half on dialup to down load, I decided to do it today on DSL today while I’m stuck at work.
8 hrs 12 min. and counting.
Today I went to Strangetown for the first time…
Anyone else notice something odd about the rock formation?
Is it the Will Wright rock? I haven’t been in there yet, but saw it while playing with the community options. Then I started putting blue birds everywhere.
That’s the one. I didn’t even realize it was an option. Which is just a testament to how much other stuff there is to do.
Don’t have Sims2 (I don’t even have all the expansion packs from the first one yet!), but I know there of some yahoo mailing lists which are putting out adult items, if anyone cares. There’s already a nude patch and probably some objects.
(E-mail me if you’re interested, and I’ll give you the url-I don’t know if it would be kosher here)
Heh.
