What do you still want added to The Sims 2

About a year and a half ago, I started a thread on What do you want fixed/changed/added to Sims 2? In the three expansion packs that followed, a lot of things that were brought up have been added (restaurants, cemeteries, more items), but of course, there’s never any such thing as enough.

So… what do you still want to see added, changed or fixed in The Sims 2?

My requests:

I still want different body sizes. Different heights would be great, but probably really hard to code. Different body types seem feasible, for weightlifters and heavy eaters.

Hats should be separate from hairstyles. First you choose a hairstyle, then you choose a hat to wear with it as clothing. This would mean that some hats don’t go well with some hairstyles, but that’s the way real life is, and it’s better than the system in place now.

A better range of skin tones. Instead of four set tones, it should be a gradation bar from really light to really dark. Kids can be a blend of their parents.

Another personality trait: possessive/open. Someone who’s neutral on this (5 points) behaves like a current Sim wrt jealousy. Someone with a 2 or 3 gets jealous if their loved one jokes with another Sim, or if their best friend makes another best friend in their presence. A 0 may get jealous if their loved one talks with another Sim, or if friends are friendly with other Sims. A 7 or 8 is ok with their lover kissing others, or maybe only gets mildly annoyed if their lover woo-hoos with another Sim, while a 10 can have a completely open relationship with no jealousy at all. Two open Sims could woo-hoo at a lower relationship score, as well.

Painting or playing an instrument should be a mini-skill, like yoga or meditation. If you make all your creativity points in painting, you should be a good painter, but a crappy guitarist. Practicing guitar can improve your playing (and add to your creativity skill), but will still leave you as a crappy pianist or drummer. This can apply to other skills, as well. Basically, I don’t like the tendency for practicing one thing to make you an expert in several tangentially related things.

More SimTV! I love the little programs they show, but there are only three or four for each channel. I want more!

A bigger range of paintings that Sims create on their own, or at least the option to add paintings to that ‘creativity pool’.

I’d like there to be more options for interaction with babies and toddlers, beyond play, cuddle, and feed. Toddlers have a few more interactions, but not much. It’s nice that you can have parents read to their toddlers, but I’d like them to be able to sit in a chair or on the couch with the toddler on their lap and read to the kid. I’d also like a rocking chair with a rocking action to get the babies/toddlers to sleep, or just to snuggle. In other words, a few more realistic actions between parents and children.

I’ll probably think of more …

Are spiral staircases in yet? I haven’t got the Business expansion yet.

I want true split level houses. I want spiral and curved stairs. I would like werewolves to balance it all out. I miss the genie and the science station. I want to set munchie bot to never get chineses food. I’d like more date activities. i’d like wishing wells.

I kind of miss the pets. There needs to be more animals.
Btw for anyone who cares. I tried installing Family stuff this morning and I am not sure what happend, but nothing sims related works now. I lost a seven generation dynasty and the coolest house ever. Now my computer won’t even let me re-install. It may be the end of my simming.

I’d like to see more motivations, wants and personality traits, anything to generate more varied interactions. I like the idea of jealousy as a trait described above.

I’d like to see Sims sit in a chair while they talk on the phone. Teenagers could lie on the couch or floor, too.

I like the jealousy trait the OP described.

I’d like it if my guests would quit helping themselves to the food in my refrigerator. I have to keep putting the fridge in a locked room whenever I have a party, because I can’t afford to remodel the area to lock it yet. I had a banquet table full of food and a wedding cake, and all my guests kept grabbing juice and chips out of the fridge (this almost seemed like a bug I don’t remember having before installing OFB).

Regarding OFB: I haven’t seen an option to reprimand your employees or tell them not to do something. For example, I’d like to be able to tell my salesman to quit using Hard Sell.

A reward object that slows time (i.e. the next 24 hours will last twice as long as usual) would be nice.

I only have the base game so I don’t know if any of this stuff has been fixed (I doubt it because I still see people complaining on other forums).

I’d also love to see spiral staircases. The available stairs take up too much room.
As for toddlers and babies, it would be nice if the adults would leave them the hell alone! It seems like you can never get anyone to change a dirty baby diaper (I had one Sim carry around a stinky baby, try to feed it when it had just been fed, and try to put it back to bed without changing it even after I told her to change it’s diaper several times. But once it’s a toddler they want to bathe it constantly. I am thinking of removing all tubs from homes with toddlers because I get tired of stopping all the adults from trying to bathe the clean toddler. The kid could be starving or need to pee but they have to bathe it. I think they must all be a little pervy. The kid could be sleeping and they all want to pick it up. I tried to download a hack to stop this but unfortunately I keep getting an error.
And another thing about the kids, could the nanny’s be a little less annoying? It seems that everyone who plays this game wants to kill them. I wish there were an option for the toddler to throw the food at them when they stick the poor sleepy thing in the highchair and try to feed it when it’s not hungry. I get the kid potty trained and the nanny keeps interfering and trying to hold the kid when it’s using the potty.
I’d like to see pets, too. And it would be more realistic if homes would get dusty or floors dirty every few days so they need to be swept or mopped (other then when there are plumbing leaks or other wet accidents). That way you’d have more options for upping your sims cleaning skills other than just cleaning tubs and toilets and maybe you’d get your money’s worth when you do hire a maid.
Speaking of plumbing leaks. It would be nice if brand new products didn’t break or clog until they got older. I have had showers break after the first use. It’s ridiculous how much stuff breaks, who makes their products ACME?
Okay, I’d better stop now.

Ding, ding, ding! You nailed this one on the head. Sims who normally want to have nothing to do with the children are all over trying to bathe the stupid toddlers. Do your sims always go to the farthest possible bathroom away from where the toddler is like mine do? My toddler can be on the first floor with a perfectly good bathtub, and the sim will insist on carrying him/her all the way to the third floor for a bath, and then leave the poor kid there. It also annoys me when I want the sims to give the toddler a bottle before putting him/her in the crib, or let the kid go potty, and there’s a line of 4 sims trying to put the kid in the crib.

In OFB, I’d like to be able to assign employees to A shift, B shift and C shift. When I call in employees, I’d liked to call in a particular shift or all employees, that way you could rest some of your employees but still be staffed.

I have also had the line of adults trying to put the kid to sleep when the poor thing needs to potty or eat more than sleep. I downloaded a toddler floor blanket so the kid can sleep on the floor (then they can get up and amuse themselves/build skills when they wake up without waiting to be let out of the crib) but the adults don’t like it and keep trying to pick the kid up the whole time the kid is sleeping, it doesn’t matter if their energy is over 50% or 90%.

I also downloaded some special doors that allow you to ban toddlers for all my bathrooms to keep the kids from playing in the toilets (which they always want to do), so what do the adults do? They take the kids into the bathroom for a bath and then leave them in there so they can play in the toilet after their nice unneeded bath. Then the toddler can’t leave because of the door so I have to get an adult to go back and get him. And speaking of playing in the toilets, why don’t the adults care when the toddlers do this? I’ve had them stand there and watch them, right after the bathed the kid!

I know the game is not totally realistic but real toddlers do fall asleep all over the place and parents do get annoyed when the kids play in the toilets and don’t want them to do it.

Sorry, I could hijack this thread with my complaints about this stuff. :frowning:

Is there any way to take just a couple of family members to the community lot? If not, I want that, because it’s annoying when I just want two or three people to go somewhere, and the whole group piles into the car.

I agree that there should be more aspirations (especially a mischief/trouble-maker type aspiration) more interactions/items for children and toddlers, ability to store food etc. I’d like to see a jealousy scale too. It’s a little overboard that every time a sim flirts, they get a memory of cheating, which could be fixed by the jealousy thing.

I don’t have ofb yet, so some of these things may have been fixed.

I’m so disappointed about Family Fun. I haven’t bought it yet because I’ve been reading the Sims BB and have heard all the trouble. I’ll get it only after the patch is released.

As for what I’d like to see. I’d like more skin tones, more hair color, more toddler baby interactions.

I wanted backpacks and split-level flooring, and now have both thanks to a mod and Open for Business, respectively. Now I just want robes and cloaks.

I just thought of something else that annoys the heck out of me in the Sims 2: Garbage. Sims who have a high neatness score are constantlyl trying to take out the garbage, and if you make the mistake of telling them to do something else while they’re taking out the garbage, they drop it. I’d also like to know how one dropped baby bottle can turn into a big pile of trash. If sims can finish making a bed before doing what I tell them to, and completely ignore me at other times, why can’t they finish taking the garbage to the can?

I have the expansions up through Business – I haven’t downloaded the patch yet because I haven’t had too much trouble so far but this thread reminds me that I should do that soon. I was looking forward to Family Fun, but based on user comments (like others have mentioned) I’m leaning toward waiting a bit longer on this.

I’m especially annoyed that the hair and hats are connected. In general I would like to see more hair styles. I would also like more hair and clothing options that aren’t cool and fashionable – more geeky, retro, and period stuff would be excellent, for both adults and children.

This might be different with the patch, right now if the Sims have a home business and you lock some doors to keep the customers out of their house, it makes it hard to have friends over. I always forget to unlock the doors first and then the guest goes away. I wish there was a lock option that allowed “household and guests, but not random business patrons”

I wish toddlers could interact with each other, and play together if you have twins.

It would be nice if the swimming pools allowed the Sims to interact with each other more, and do more stuff in the pool besides swim. I miss the slides. They should also have pool toys.

If I am playing a family in, say, downtown, and then I want to play a household in university, I want to be able to exit the first house and go directly to the university neighborhood instead of exiting to the downtown neighborhood, waiting for it to load up, and then going to university and waiting all over again.

Omega Glory, I completely agree with wanting to take just some household members downtown … it’s the biggest pain to wait until everyone is all high bars and ready to go.

It’s been a few months since I’ve played (I hate being too busy for my Sims!), but unless I’m misremembering some details, you can have two Sims in the same household be a casual group (assuming you have Nightlife). Then use the phone to have just those two go on a “just for fun” outing.

I believe that works. The group management gave me a lot of things I wanted in the game.

I would like not just separate hats and hair, but separate accessories generally, like jewelry, scarves, etc.

I’d like more interaction with the Aliens. I think Aliens should be able to chat online under an assumed name and and that would make an abduction more likely.

I had a sim cleaning out a potty chair and he was right in front of the toilet when I lined up another “to do” thing for him and he dropped the potty contents on the floor which turned into a pile of garbage with cans and potato chip bags and other garbage … what the heck are they feeding those kids?
Has this been fixed in the newer expansions? What is the deal with coffee and espresso cups? Why is it they have to walk all the way to the other side of the house or upstairs just to set down their cup when they were standing right next to a counter, the kitchen sink and a dishwasher! I could see it if they were walking around drinking the beverage but they stay in the kitchen to drink it and then walk miles to ditch the cup. Even the most anally neat Sim will do this instead of just washing the cup.

I just remembered another change I want.

I want middle names, and I want names to be chageable.

If a couple I’ve created gets divorced, I want them to go back to their pre-marriage names, which would be whatever I choose to give them. I want Sims to be able to keep their pre-marriage names as middle names after they wed. I want kids of single parents to be able to change their last names if they move in with a new step-spouse. And if Bill Sim survives being electrocuted three times, I want to be able to rename him Bill “Sparky” Sim.
