Would it be much of a problem to ask the super-techs to make a tiny, little change with the ad placement that will greatly, fantastically increase the usability of the board? I’m talking about a 20 pixel shift. Here’s the proposal:
Just swap the positions of the Google Ad band with the band that has the page number for longer threads. It’s way, way too many times now that I don’t notice additional pages due to the Google Ad. I always scroll down to the Google ad, so I always see it. But since it’s my “stopping point” I don’t usually see the page gadget.
So, the usability benefit is we’ll actually see that additional pages exist, which we’ll go to, which will also benefit the SDMB because it’s another add exposure that we could potentially click on.
Yeah, I know, sorry for another Google Ads post. We all thought they were done.
Well, duh! This is a usability request. I’m already at the bottom of the page. It doesn’t matter what’s at the top of the page.
Is really just that much effort to mention to anyone? It’s the nice things that make the iPod such a hit – why does the SDMB have to be like, uh, Windows Media Player?
If they won’t listen, just switch to Firefox and block the ads by removing them from the page. I like Remove It Permanently for simple page tweaks like this.
Thanks, TubaDiva! That’s as much as I was hoping for!
Now if everyone else chimes in with “me too” before the tech folks look at this thread, then maybe, you know they’ll have no choice but to respond to the overwhelming demand.
I think this is a good usability suggestion. I have thus far resisted the urge to block the ads as a courtesy to the SDMB, but it is tempting. A usability change like this will help me maintain the willpower to continue resisting the urge…
