Ian Hunter and Mick Jagger
Meat Loaf and the singer from the Killers
Lou Reed and the singer from Cake
Hozier and Eric Burdon
Sting and Tony Lewis of the Outfield.
The first few times I heard “Eye of the Tiger,” I assumed it was Journey, because Jimmy Jamison sounded very close to Steve Perry.
I always think this song Cough Syrup by Young the Giant is by Coldplay.
I also think this guy and Chris Martin sound like Sting.
Peter Murphy is a cross between David Bowie and Neil Diamond
Ian McCulloch of Echo and the Bunnymen is a cross between Neil Diamond and Michael Hutchence of INXS.
Jack White and the guy from Cage the Elephant
Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Jay Kay of Jamiroquai.
I always heard the Neil Diamond part of this too!
To me, Janis Joplin sounds a bit like Roky Erickson of The 13th Floor Elevators, which is kind of interesting because they were friends in real life.
B.J. Thomas, Jay and the Americans, J. Frank Wilson and The Righteous Brothers sound rather alike to me. A 60s thing: intense, operatic white male, always seeming to be verging on either self-pity, self-parody or both.
Richard Harris deserves honorable mention for his one off MacArthur Park, which channels similar feelings as the aforementioned.
Ha! Upthread I mentioned Sting and the singer from Maná. I was planning to to add to that post “…and the singer from the band with that one 80s hit ‘Tonight’,” but I decided not to, because I couldn’t remember the name of the act.
Turns out I couldn’t remember the nane of the song either. It’s actually ‘Your Love.’
When I heard Iggy’s new tune “Gardenia” I thought “Wow, he sounds a lot like Bowie”.
Hozier and Elton John!
I was going to say “Sting and Maroon5”. Every time I hear the opening of “Map that leads to you” I want to start singing “Walking on the Moon”…
Apparently, everyone sounds like Sting.
