Singers You Felt Sound Similar but Others May/ May Not Agree With?

I tend to prefer to revive zombie threads when there is already a similar topic, rather than start a new one. But the similar threads dealing with “singers who sound like other singers” subject are old, the most recent one being from 2012. So here is a new thread.

So which singers do you think sound like other singers?

Rick Astley and Gary Puckett of the Union Gap to me sound similar.
The late Robert Palmer and Paul Carrack(Mike & Mechanics, Squeeze, Ace) sound similar to me.
Bjork and Harriet Wheeler of the Sundays. And to a lesser extent Suzanne Vega.

There is a Swedish singer, Amanda Jenssen, whose vocals remind me of Adele.

On the early 70’s tune “Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again” by the Fortunes, singer Rod Allen’s high notes are a dead ringer for Frankie Valli.

I recently discovered an 80’s band named Bronski Beat, whose lead singer oddly reminds me of the disco singer Slyvester.

Slyvester: Patrick Cowley - Do You Wanna Funk? (feat. Sylvester) - YouTube

Call me crazy.

So what are your examples besides the obvious Eddie Vedder and every other alternative 90’s rock singer?

Linda Ronstadt and Trisha Yearwood.

54-40 and The Tragically Hip.

How’s this for odd: K.T. Oslin and Katey Sagal?

The source: Barry Manilow’s version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.

Karen Carpenter and Gloria Estefan

Nice. I hear that. Carpenter’s voice was more supple, but yeah, similar timbre.
The new UK rock/folkie Jake Bugg sounds exactly like Oasis’ Liam Gallagher.

The singer for the Mexican pop-rock band Maná – popular in much of Latin America from about 1990 to 2010 – sounds just like Sting to me. It probably helps that Maná songs sometimes resemble certain Police or solo Sting tracks.

Obscure Seattle band TKO singer sounds like Roger Daltrey. One time I was playing TKO and my friend said “A new Who album?” TKO had 3 albums but no hits.

Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra.

When I was much younger, I thought Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” was a Rolling Stones tune. Van sounded exactly like a younger Jagger to my ears.

When Seal released his first album, I thought his voice sounded a lot like Peter Gabriel

Captain Beefheart and Josh Groban sometimes sounded identical.

John Anderson and Carly Simon.

Now that you mention it, I always wish Axl Rose would cover Janis’ Another Piece of My Heart.

Steve Winwood and Peter Gabriel
Amy Grant and Sophie B. Hawkins
Roy Orbison and Chris Isaak
Pink and Kelly Clarkson
Richard Butler of Psychedelic Furs and Ian Dury

Elvis Presley and early Conway Twitty.

Quick sidetrack. The musical Bye Bye Birdy was structured around Elvis Presley being drafted into the army and the teeny bopper kerfuffle that followed. They couldn’t make it about Presley so they made it about a guy who was just like him. Conrad Birdy. Get it?

Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.

Bowie and Iggy Pop sound very similar in their lower “crooning” registers. But they worked together so much that I think their voices sorta grew together like when two trees are planted next to each other.

Although their voices are quite different, it has always seemed to me that Rod Stewart took a lot of his singing style from Sam Cooke.

On his first couple of albums, Joe Cocker sounded a lot like Ray Charles.
