Soundalike Singers

I know there’s been a thread on lookalike actors recently, so I was thinking, what about those singers who could, vocally, pass for one another? Any offerings?

Bonnie Tyler and Rod Stewart.

Obscure, but…
Happy Rhodes’ high voice sounds just like Kate Bush’s high voice, but her low voice is completely different.

In case anyone who cares (and knows what Kate’s high voice sounds like) doesn’t believe me: http://vickie.teemingmillions.com/happy/samples/index.html (try “Don’t Want To Hear It” though it’s one of her early songs. She learned how to sing by singing along with The Kick Inside. She’s no Kate Clone though. She’s very much her own artist.)

Oh, damn, I can’t remember his name!
There was a guy who sounded a hell of a lot like Elvis. I don’t mean an impersonater; this guy was doing his own stuff.

Rats! Mr zoogirl can’t remember either.

NOT the guy who did “The King is Gone”

Young Thom Yorke sounds a good bit like Young Bono at times. Not unintentionally.

Vocally, I would have to say at times Michael Bublé sounds very similar to Frank himself

Emilia Torrini (as she sang Gollums Song in LotR-TTT) and Björk. Enya and Maire Brennan (then again, they’re sisters).

At times, Fastball’s Miles Zuniga and Men at Work’s Colin Hay – especially on Fastball’s “Out of My Head”. When I first heard that song, I wondered if MAW had made a comeback.

Livingston Taylor sounds like his singing brother…

Alex!

Back when Stone Temple Pilots first came out, many derided Scott Weiland as an Eddie Vedder clone. Now the comparison seems reaching.

America and Neil Young. When I first heard “Horse with No Name,” I though it was Neil Young.

dbygawdcapn I am amazed that another Doper knows another Taylor besides James. I love Liv’s stuff, and wonder why he wasn’t more famous.

Well, I’ll throw the most obvious out there: Scott Stapp sounds just like Eddie Vedder minus the meaning…

My wife insists that Ian McCullough sounds just like Neil Diamond, but I don’t get it…

It’s funny that you mention Ian, because I’m about to start a thread on a similar topic: Bands that sound alike, specifically, 80’s gloom-pop or electronica. One of my entries is Echo, and to me they sound most similar to the Psychedelic Furs, but that’s counting the entire package, singing, lyrics, music, and general outlook. However, while the singing is certainly similar, I wouldnt go so far as to say they sound the same.

I would give you though that Ian sounds sort of like a cross between Neil Diamond, and Michael Hutchence

On the other hand, one of the entries in my upcoming thread are singers that do sound the same: the Smiths and Blue Clocks Green.

Five For Fighting’s lead singer sounds like Dave Matthews.

There have been a number of mainstream recording artists who were essentially Elvis impersonators: Ral Donner, Terry Stafford, Vince Everett, Orion and Terry Tigre, to name a few. Donner, Stafford and Orion even had national chart hits.

I agree that Ian McCullough sounds like Neil Diamond. I also think Randy Travis can sound exactly like Lefty Frizzell.

Kurt Cobain and the guy from Puddle of Mudd.

I don’t know how many North Americans know the British band Elbow, but their lead singer sounds uncannily like Peter Gabriel. It’s not so much his voice, but the style in which he sings. It’s interesting, because I never thought much about Peter Gabriel having a distinctive singing style, but hearing Elbow, it’s very obvious the lead singer is imitating it.

The lead singer for The Creation could easily be mistaken by an unknowing listener for The Who’s Roger Daltrey.

You’re thinking of Country/Western singer Ronnie Milsap (not that big a fan, but I like Older Women).

Art

Some of the similarities aren’t coincidence, but simply one imitating the other like early Weiland and Vedder and Puddle of Mudd guy and Cobain.

I always thought Dido sounded like Sarah McLauchlan. If I spelled her name right.
