I don’t know where to post this, but I’m hope that this is the right forum.
We’ve all heard about singers who write songs about the homeless, or nuclear weapons, or abuse, and so on.
I myself, find this useless. What good have they actually done? Has a homeless person ever gotten off of the streets due to a song? Has a country disarmed because of a song? I’m not talking about a singer who takes the proceeds of album sales and donates some of the profits, I’m just talking about someone who feels bad and writes a song. Like, for example, did any of U2’s protest songs make a difference in Ireland?
I’ve always thought of it as a way to raise awareness of a problem…
… or perhaps the speaker’s simply telling us how they feel; that’s what most music is, isn’t it? And I’d rather listen to a song with an opinion, most of the time, then another formulaic love song.
Hehe, I Love that song, but yeah, I share your sentiment. Well, I think it was a fundraiser, or part of one, and if it was, then it probably helped by raising some money, but of course, it was only short term help. It sure as hell didn’t do any long term good.
Well, that’s true, I mean, before Phil Collins Another Day in Paradise I never knew anything about homelessness. No, but seriously (:D), I see your point, but unless it’s about some unknown problem, I don’t think it does any good.
