AUGH. I just found out Friday that I am four weeks pregnant with Progeny 2.0. I also have a gnarly sinus infection, possibly worsened by the hormonal shifting going on. Or maybe not, I dunno; regardless, THIS BLOWS. It’s awesome I’m preggo, it BLOWS that I’m already throwing up four freakin’ weeks into the pregnancy.
With Progeny 1.0, I was a wee bit queasy around 8-9 weeks, but no barfing. This morning, I was kneeling at the porcelein altar in the book store losing my midmorning snack. Awesome.
I’m on baby-safe antibiotics, and have been trying to resist the baby-safe decongestants; after all, the little poppy-seed sized kiddo is forming all of his/her organ systems right now. It’s kind of an important developmental time that I don’t want to taint with meds. But I’m so congested it’s in my ears (well, eustachian tubes, technically), and I’m dizzy whenever I turn my head. This is normal for me with sinus infections; it always seems to irritate my middle ear. I fend off the pukes and the dizzies by keeping on top of decongestants; looks like my attempts to remain medication-free have sunk my pukey ship.
I caved and took the 12-hour Sudafed, and I’m just trying to drink lots of water. I also have Preggie Pops that are supposed to have anti-queasy effects, but could only stomach one. We shall see.
Oh God, 1st trimester pukies… I remember it well, except that I never puked, nor was my nausea limited to the morning hours. I felt like I was gonna barf 24/7 for the entire first trimester, but never actually barfed. I actually wished that I could just hurl, feel a bit better and get on with my day, but nope.
The good news? Day 91, I felt fantastic and never felt sick again.
Oh, and the people who told me “each of your pregnancies will be different?” Nope- lather, rinse, repeat with the second kid… to the day. :smack:
That’s how I know I’m pregnant, just a few days after being late- “Hmmm, my boobs hurt, and I think I’m gonna barf… um, honey? Guess what?”
My SIL just went through the same thing. Poor thing was puking all the time. My bro says she’d wake up in the morning and blow her nose then puke from blowing her nose. I can only imagine how much worse it’d have been for her with a sinus infection
Like EJsGirl, she has felt fantastic now that she’s past 90 days. I hope it works out for you too!!!
EJsGirl, I caved and used the Sudafed 12 Hour about 6 hours ago. With an hour of rest, I felt muuuuuuuuuuuch better. I know the stuff is safe, but this early on I’m a wee bit paranoid.
Clothahump, I bought a Sinu-Cleanse neti pot the other day. I had used one when I was preggo with Progeny 1.0 on my OB’s recommendation. It does seem to help, but the infection seems to be in the maxillaries (beyond the cheekbones), and those cannot apparently be easily drained. I still feel the congestion in my cheeks and the pressure on my ears. So, I think once this infection clears up, the neti pot will work better for things like clearing out dust and allergies.
FTR, I had sinus surgery in 1995 (maxillary and ethnoid polyps and cysts, and a bone spur blocking one entire side)…sinus infections are a rarity these days, but when they come up the bluhhhhh is oh too familiar.
