Sisko In Cahoots with the Prophets

In the episode where Sisko confesses to his log recorder his complicity of the assasination of a Romulan Senator, The Prophets…whom supposedly hold the welfare of planet Bajor and Captain Sisko’s conduct in great importance…seem to be silent about Sisko’s conspiracy to murder after the fact.

Your observations?

The murder doesn’t affect Bajor or the wormhole so the prophets don’t know/don’t care about it?

They don’t seem to care what he does unless it effects their plans. That of course means he really can’t do anything to surprise them because being nonlinear they know everything he has done or will ever do.
Kind of a predestined thing.
If they had a problem with his actions they’d have turfed him the first time he came into contact with them.

Sisko’s involvement in that conspiracy greatly tried his sense of right and wrong. It is possible that the Prophets purposefully stayed out of that one so he could learn and grow from it.

Also these are the same Prophets who wiped out a Dominion battle fleet in the wormhole without hestitation when Sisko was willing to die to stop them. The same Prophets who allowed the Bajorans to suffer grievously under Cardasian occupation.

At best indifferent- the Prophets only seemed interested in Sisko to meet their own ends.

BTW- the episode in question in the OP was one of the reasons why DS9 is the Trek series for me.

To the Prophets Sisko was/is a tool for them to use, which is why they would warn him off of dangerous things that would affect him if it would interfere with their plans. they didn’t interfere when he was killed in the Visiter because they knew old Jake would save him (since the Prophets are non-linear). they did interfere when Dukat was Pah-Wraith afflicted and when The Dominion fleet was advancing because it directly affected them and their tool. Usually the Prophets stayed out of linear affairs, except when Grand Nagus Zek bugged them and they made him generous, until Quark explained that that would cause more people to search them our and bug them. Sure, there is some inconsistancy (shouldn’t they have seen that coming?) but maybe the problem is we are thinking too linear…yeah, that’s the ticket!
