Six degrees of Straight Dope

Over the years I’ve lurked and then posted here, I’ve seen a bunch of “six degree” encounters, where Dopers dicover they have mutual friends, or live nearby each other, or went to the same school.

I don’t know if this has been done before, but I thought I’d offer up a few biographical details and see if there are any “hits” out there. Anyone else can contribute their own info.

Emilio’s life in brief:

I grew up in Hyde Park, on the south side of Chicago
I worked at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange from 1985 - 1995
I worked at the Organic Theater in Chicago from 1992 - 1995
I lived in the Charles Village neighbohood of Baltimore for a few years
I worked at the Baltimore Museum of Art from 1996 - 1998

I can resolve more details if needed.

Daddy was a cop

On the South side of Chicago

Back in the bad ol’ days

Oh yeah, another Chicago link. I worked on the cable access show This Week In Joes Basement which aired between 1989 and 1993.

I was born in Des Plaines, but my family moved when I was 2.

Okay, I’ll play.

Born at OSU Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Spent the first 14 years of life on the east side of Columbus near Reynoldsburg and Whitehall. Went to Columbus Public Schools (Shady Lane, Sherwood, Walnut Ridge), then when mom remarried after my father’s death, we moved to Ashville where I graduated from Teays Valley. I then went to Bradford for Graphic Design. Afterwards, I worked for Kinko’s for 3+ years then a couple other printing companies afterward. I am back in Columbus on the southeast end for now.

Anyone near me??

I’ve attended the following education institutions:
In Pasadena, CA:
Caltech Campus Children’s Center (daycare)
Walden School (kindergarten)

In or near Sunnyvale, CA:
Serra School (Elementary school)
West Valley School (Elementary school)
Eaton School (Elementary school)
Collins School (Elementary school)
Cupertino Jr. High School (which has no distinguishing characteristics)
Homestead High School (Home of the mighty mustang marching band, the fastest band in the west, and also The Epitaph, widely considered to be the best high school newspaper in the country at the time. I bet you didn’t know there was a “best high school newspaper in the country” )

Haverford College (near Philadelphia)

I’ve worked for:
The 3DO Company (now defunct)
Capcom

I’ve also attended:
Arrowbear Music Camp
Oljato Boy Scout Camp

My cousin Jamie is (was) a Merc Jerk.

I live just outside Baltimore (in the 'burbs) and I know exactly where Charles Village is. I’ve also been the to BMA quite a few times. I know I went there in '97 and '98, so maybe I saw you.

Born and raised in Houston, TX.
Lived in Austin, TX 1966-1978. Graduated SWTSU 1977.
Lived in Jakarta, Indonesia 1980-81.
Lived in Singapore 1983-84, with a side trip to Sydney, Australia in early 84

Ringo and I have already had a “six degrees” sort of experience. We met at a HouDope a while back and wound up figuring out that he is the younger brother of the first girl I ever smooched.

You are only two years younger than me, and I graduated from Liberty Union in Baltimore. Did you play any sports? We played Teays Valley in almost every sport. Were you in Knowledge Bowl? I used to work at the B.P. on Main and James, if you know where that is. Do you know lots of people from Ashville? Let me know.

I lived in Charles Village proper from 1976 to 1983. Gimmee dem row houses! Yeah!

On other fronts, my natal and present home is just a few miles away from Ferret Herder’s grandpa’s old farm.

No, no sports after the move. I was in marching band though, the flag corps. So you graduated in '94? Baltimore is so close to me, we live in Groveport.

BP on Main and James, that’s quite an area over there! I used to work at the Wendy’s in South Bloomfield (rt 23) for a couple years in high school, maybe you’ve been there?

Are you still in Baltimore?

Oops, almost forgot to answer this. Yes, unfortunately I have met many people in that community but I refuse to associate with many more of them. Except for my in-laws of course. Do you know a lot of people from Ashville?

Max, me bruvver went to Haverford in the late 80s.

Dr Lizardo, I love your user name. I still say:

Home is where you wear you Hat. I feela so break-up, I wanna go HOME.

And of course the immortal: Laugh-a while you can, monkey boy!

I’ve been to a party, at a friend of a friend’s, in one of those Charles Village brownstones (or whatever they are). I lived in Baltimore from 1992 until 1995, and worked in Locust Point. Consumed a decent amount of beer, pretzels, lunches and raw bar goodies at the Cross Street market. My favorite Baltimore restaurant was the Helmand.

Teays Valley? Groveport? Whitehall? OK, I’ll play too, though I’m probably too old to know **PinkMarabou ** or RancidYakButterTeaParty.

I was born in OSU hospital in Columbus, Ohio and did most of my growing up (ages 6-18) in Chillicothe – CHS Class of '85. I went to college at Wittenberg University in Springfield (that’s Springfield, Ohio for all you Simpsons fans)

Other locations:
[ul]Studied in Aberystwyth, Wales in 1987
[li]Grad school at Penn State (English), '89-'96[/li][li]Spent the 1994-95 year in Paris[/li][li]Now living in Seattle (Capitol Hill), and acquainted with local Dopers thanks to Tuesday night trivia[/li][/ul]
(This is starting to feel like a résumé…probably shouldn’t be typing it at work…)

Passed it a thousand times while driving between Chillicothe and Columbus.

My brother does some sort of software installations at hospitals around the US. The last one I’d heard about was in Salem, MA. I wonder if it’s the same company. FWIW he lives in Pittsburgh but I know the company is based somewhere else. It doesn’t reallly matter where he lives because his work site is always changing.

I grew up, for the most part, on the northwest side of Chicago.
Also lived in several suburbs in my life: Palatine, Druce Lake, Itasca, Wood Dale, Bensenville, Lindenhurst, Glendale Heights, Glen Ellyn, Elgin, Mundelein and Schaumburg.
Attended three different high schools: Steinmetz, Hoffman Estates, Fenton.
Attended Harper Community College.
Worked in lots of restaurants in the Chicago suburban area, mostly for ala Carte Entertainment.
Was involved in the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Biograph, attended a number of sf/f conventions in the Chicago area, have been going to the Bristol Renaissance Faire (formerly King Richard’s Faire) since 1982.
Various members of my family are or were in entertainment or are firefighters in Chicago.
