- Max attended Caltech daycare, the same place that
- Teaches classes in things, that
- Xan Sonn is taking, who was a student (and valedictorian) at
- Fayetteville High School, the same place that
- I went.
We practically know each other.
We practically know each other.
Is that in Fayetteville, NC? A friend of mine taught high school physics (IIRC) and coached lacrosse in Fayetteville, NC.
How south of Chicago? My grandfather was a cop in Harvey, IL “back in the bad 'ol days”

I lived in Schaumburg off and on between 1996 and 2001. I also attended Harper College from 1997 to 2002. I’ve also gone to the Renn faire in Bristol for the last three years.
Love this thread idea!
Hmm… no big hits for me just yet. Several of my friends worked at 3DO, so they might know MaxtheVool. I grew up in Houston, and moved to Austin, so it’s conceivable that Clothahump and I know some people in common, but probably not- the years are all wrong.

Guess I should post a list of some details about me too:
I have been to that Waldenbooks!
This is interesting. First off, my name is Jared W, son of J and M. My dad worked in the oilfields untill he got laid off, worked for Pepperidge Farm then got fired, worked for Pepsi, Fed Ex, whatever else. This will explain things later. My mom has always been a teacher and she currently teaches 3rd grade. (This is all publically available information.)
Was born in Houston, Tx on January 12, 1988. I forget the hospital but am pretty sure it was Catholic.
Had house robbed in Houston, never solved, that involved a look-out of Latin American decent. Were you the robber?
Moved to Morgantown, WV from the late 80’s to the mid 90’s. Hi Abbie and Gamera. Know Cheat Lake? Yea, went to school there from k-1. Still am absolutely terrified of that bridge. Best I can offer is I was friends with that Hostetler guy’s son - the Raider’s QB that had that pub opened up intown.
Moved to Julian, Whitsett, and Pleasant Garden from the mid 90’s to present. Hello Jammer, audiobottle, DocterJ, Cisco, et al. I go to Southeast Guilford Highschool, sometimes am in the paper (best hat material around), played soccer for a couple years, and generally don’t come out of the house much. The only thing I can think of is maybe I saw DoctorJ at Moses Cone, assuming he works there (largest hospital in Greensboro but not the only one.) Remember not the last one but two teenage-driver wrecks somewhat prior to that? Two kids dead in one, three hurt but none fatally in another? All friends of mine. I also spent some time at Moses Cone with the none-fatal one. Otherwise, if anyone lives downtown around Tate, I have probably walked past your house. My friends and I walk around South Mendenhall every once in awhile. Maybe, even, I got angry at you in Wendover traffic. All very real possibilities.
Have been in and out of Bunola, Monongahela, and Pittsburgh just about my entire life. If you have ever spent any sort of time in Bunola during the past 17 years, we might of crossed paths. Well, actually, we probably tripped over each others paths. Quite a small town.
Nope, sorry. Fayetteville, AR.
Very likely that you’ve seen me, then. I’m there every weekend. Not part of the cast, but a member of the Friends Of Faire. You’ll generally find me in the front row of Minstrels of Mayhem, Moonie, Broon, Prattle & Pratfall, Wit of Will and Seelie Court shows.
You know that his quote is a few lines from the song “The Night Chicago Died”, right? It’s a bit before your time, early-mid 1970s, IIRC.
I have no connections with any of you so far.
Born in Flint , Michigan, grew up in the Thumb 80-87, and have also lived in Asheville, NC off and on since birth, and Rock Hill, SC 88-96.
Have worked for Red Lobster in Charlotte, Cracker Barrel in Rock Hill, and here in Tucson for Arizona Community Physicians and NextCare Urgent Care.
My mother has worked in hospitals in Flint, Pigeon, and Asheville. My dad, well, just think of the biggest asshole you ever knew- there’s a good chance it’s him!
My best friend, Kim, lives in Midland, Michigan, my brother went to college in Bouie’s Creek, NC
Dirk, i knew a fella name of Brian L. Moore from Kerrville. He was a couple two three years older than you though.
Hmm, let’s see. I doubt there’s all that many people who are familiar with where I grew up, but it’s worth a shot.
– I was born Dodgeville, WI in 1984. My entire family is from that area.
– I attended IGEMS/IGHS (If you know where that is, then we must know some of the same people.) I did Forensics, managed the cross-country team, participated in Pioneer Band Camp from 1999-2002, Odyssey of the Mind/Destination Imagination, Honors Band . . . pretty much everything except sports.
– I had Mrs. Kelly for first grade. She was evil and stabbed my brother with a fork when he had her the next year.
– Went to UW-Milwaukee last year, as an English major
– Currently attending UW-Whitewater, still an English major. I’m in the concert band.
– I’ve gone to Bristol Faire three times, but skipped last year. I’m planning on attending this August to celebrate my 21st birthday. I’ll either be wearing a bright red wool Venetian dress or a copy of the Portrait of an Unknown Girl, 1569, since I just tracked down a cheap source for silk taffeta. Maybe we should play “spot the Doper” or something like that.
I was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and I worked, went to school and played all over from Northern Kentucky to Dayton. Now I live in Irvine, California. If you’ve been to UCI or near that area, you’ve probably seen me.
Most people who’ve seen me probably know me through conventions. I’ve been to Ohayo Con, otakon, anime expo, sugoi con, fanime and yaoi con.
Max, assuming you were at Homestead High (Cupertino, CA) around 1987-1991 (judging from your SDMB bio), did you by any chance have Chemistry classes with a Mrs R-----? If so, and unless there are two women who meet those criteria, she was the woman who later became my mother-in-law.
This is a miss, I think… but thought I’d mention it just in case. I lived in Columbus when I was younger (86-89), near Powell and Worthington. Went to Sutter Park Elementary.
Anyway, the full story:
Born in Cambridge UK 1980
Lived in southern villages till 1986
Columbus Ohio 1986-1989
Back to south of Cambridge 1989
Oxford University 1999-2002 (Physics)
Working south of Cambridge 2002-present (IT)
We have a connection. That Hostetler guy (and his son) are very distant cousins of mine. No, I do not know him.
My info:
Born in Michigan City, IN in July 1961.
Lived in Michigan City, Niles MI and Detroit all before early 1966.
Moved to Goshen, IN in 1966, and lived there through high school, graduating in 1979.
Attended Purdue University '79-'81.
Tri-State University, Angola, IN '82-'84.
First job had me living in Bedford, IN '84-'85.
Second, 3rd, and 4th jobs took me to Indianapolis, '85-'03.
Currently in Tidewater Virginia, since late '03.
I’ve personally met Avarie537, Bodypoet, Munch, AskNott, Todd33RPM, FairyChatMom, DbyGawdCapn, and RTFirefly.
I’ve lived in the NW suburbs most of my life as well. My mother went to Steinmetz, I grew up in Hoffman, Schaumburg, Elgin, Hanover Park, and Cary. Went to Conant HS, also went to Harper. My sister was a regular attendee of Rocky Horror back in the 80s. We also have a number of entertainers in our family. Heh. We’re practically neighbors or somethin’!
Another NW Chicagoan born-and-bred here. Was born in Skokie, parents moved to Wheeling when I was 6, moved to Lake County-Arlington Heights (they live off of Lake Cook Rd. and Arlington Heights Road) when I was 16.
Went to Booth Tarkington grade school, Holmes Jr. High, Wheeling High School till I was 16, then I should have gone to Stevenson, but I was a “bad girl” at the time, so they sent me to the screw-up school, Central High School, in Libertyville. Class of '90.
Used to hang out at Randhurst Mall, Woodfield mall less often and the video game arcade in Arlington Heights right off Dundee…what the hell was the name…oh yeah, it was Galaxy video games.
Went to Bristol Faire every single year till I moved down here 3 1/2 years ago. I used to know damn near everyone at Faire at least by sight, if not by name. Some of you that have gone for years and years have probably seen me there, I wish I still had pictures of me from that period, I’d bet that some of you would recognize me, me and my friends used to go damn near every weekend, and we always danced in the drum circle at days end.
Live in Dallas now, work at one of the local upperclass strip clubs (if anyone’s particularly interested or thinks they might know me I suppose I could say which one) and go to Scarborough, but not nearly as often as I used to go to Bristol.
