Well As some of you may remember I had reason to belive that my baby was going to have an aditional finger. Well he came out with the usuall numder and all is well. Every test they give at this point points to a healthy and happy baby boy.
The persong giving the ultrasound was apparantly joking around when she noted the sixth finger. My wife was gettign an ultrasound my daughter and I were in the room and she at some point in time taped six times on the monitor and said" One, two, three, four, five, six." She said it in a jovial manner and Mrs. fifty-six said that she saw all six of them. I belived her although I was not looking at the screen at the time because my daughter was needing attention. I thought it was a joke but dissmissed it because who would joke about that. I can understand my wife seeing the other finger because those things are hard to read. So we discussed it for six or seven months and I did research about it. It was kinda funny that the midwives and nurses never mentioned the extra finger and because the utrasound tech sounded jocular we though it must not be such a big deal. When we finally mentioned it to the midwives less then a week from the due date they freeked. They could not belive it. There was not picture of the offending finger and where appaled at the possability of a joke. I think some heads went rolling or are gonna roll. The tecnition is out of town for a month or so so they just guessed that there wasent one because it would have been unlikly that she would not have taken a snapshot of it.
We also went in deciding to get a circumcision. I am not really sure why we decided to lots of very small reasons and none of them religious. Well the surgon talked us out of it. and I started to think that I was gonna let this “extra” finger stay on for a while as long as it wasent harmfull, and allow the child to weigh in on the decision. I had to take a look at my self and the differences in the two situations. Not much really. I grew a little that day and decided against a penis cut. It looked good and I just couldent bear cutting him at that point in time.
Thanks for all the input about the finger I think that it really gave me some perspective in the circumcision, and what to do if the finger really was there.
Chalk up a win for one of the many battles fighting ignorance.
Stats:
Mother compleatly healty and did a great job 6 hours labor
Daughter almost 7 years old happy and stayed in the delivery room most of the time. She excused herself several time when it was a little much for her and was gone the hour before and after the acuall birth. She really knows her limits. We were not gonna allow her in at the time of birth anyway but it was not nessasary to tell her to leave.
Baby “Tucker” 8lb 2.4 oz 20.5 in. long excellent health, red hair, happy.
Me I had a great time so much better than the first birth. One of the greatest experiences in my life.
