Six-letter nouns. Online dictionary help?

Suppose I want an alphabetical list of all six-letter nouns in the English language? Or a list of all verbs with five letters? Is there an online dictionary that can be filtered to provide those results?

I’ve used a few online crossword dictionaries that could give you lists of words of a particular length, but none of them would have known the parts of speech.

I don’t have any URL’s for you, but at least I moved your thread to the top.

Here’s an (http://www.oneacross.com/) for you. You can get all 6 letter words by entering ??? in the “pattern” field.

Similar here.

Lexpert is another good program, although it has a lot of words that you probably don’t think of as being real words. While there’s no way to distinguish between parts of speech, you can do advanced searches to find all the sixes that take an s, but not a d or ed, which would probably get you most of the regular six letter nouns.

Larry Mudd: Interesting. It only gives 20 words though. The second link requires two known letters.

I haven’t downloaded Lexpert. I was hoping for something online.

Back when I used Unix, I would use grep on the “dict” file. Don’t know if Linux still has that.

Wow, that’s pretty lame, isn’t it? Looking at it, I assumed that you’d be able to press the “GO 2” button to get 20 more returns, but it keeps spitting out the same results. Many apologies for that-- I’ll see if I can do a bit better by you…
