I’ve posted about my not-so-snappy dressing before, and I like to think I’ve gotten better. However, I’m still not integrated into the hip, young NYC scene. In fact, it’s sort of terrifying.
I don’t “go out” a whole lot, mainly because I’m just not comfortable with it. I’m not very good at fitting in, which usually doesn’t bother me in the least–most weekends I’m just glad to rest and stay in.
Not this weekend. Mr. Frail and I have been invited to a “60s soul” party. W’re told to dress with the theme. And I have no idea what this means, but we really want to go. Any help? Or should we just dress as Austin Powers and Foxy Cleopatra?
(We’d like to find something out of our own closets but have no idea where to start. We can also go thrift shopping but have very little time…)
Think Motown.
The Supremes, Martha & The VanDellas, The Shirelles, The Ronettes for a lady.
The Drifter, The Temptations, The Chi-Lites, The Four Tops for a guy.
A Google Image search should give you a pretty good idea.
This sounds like an incredibly fun theme. This is the era and style of my mom and dad, I’ve got some great pictures of them back then. They were pretty smooth looking.
Wow–that does look pretty groovy. I don’t think we’ve got anything in our closets, though! Too bad we can’t raid our parents’ closets–my dad probably still owns some of his clothing from the 60s, but he lives in Ohio. Part of the appeal in the pictures I found (Motown groups) is that everyone wears the same outfit. I wish I had a twin–we could find matching gowns and fit in perfectly. But anyway…if I can drag the husband out for some thrift shopping, maybe we can get some spectacular outfits. Thanks to you both!
